Bloody Mess is a perk in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, its Nuclear Winter mode, and Fallout: The Roleplaying Game.

Overview[]

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas[]

The perk originates from the trait from the first two games of the series, which had the effect of having enemies die in a very gory way. For Fallout 3 and later Fallout: New Vegas, the effect was taken over for the perk, having all sorts of foes exploding in a most gruesome way. It was also enhanced by adding a five percent Damage increase with all weapons.

Fallout 4[]

Fallout 4 expanded on the perk, giving it four ranks instead of just one, with the first rank adding the same effect as in the two previous games, and the two subsequent ranks each adding a five percent Damage increase, up to a total of 15%. The fourth rank, instead of adding another five percent, grants a low chance to spread the explosion on death to nearby enemies.

Fallout 76[]

Fallout 76 took over the effects from the previous game, having the same gory death animation and five percent incremental Damage increase, up to a total of 15%. However, there are only three ranks, and the explosion upon death affects close-by enemies by default. For the game's Nuclear Winter battle royale mode, there exists a single rank of the perk, granting 15% increased damage.

Fallout: The Roleplaying Game[]

With this perk, the player rolls 1d6 when inflicting a critical hit. If an Effect is rolled, they can then inflict one additional injury to a random location.
