We believe that if everyone, mutants and humans, could learn to work together, then a great many problems could be resolved.

Chris was a thinker Nightkin in an early version of Fallout.

Background

Main article: Thinker Nightkin

The thinkers were the equivalent of Children scholars, characterized by a high level of intelligence and erudition. If interacted with, they would attempt to convince the Vault Dweller to help them, citing their desire to bring peace to the wastelands and explaining that "if everyone, mutants and humans, could learn to work together, then a great many problems could be resolved". If the Dweller expressed skepticism, they'd state that everything is perfectly fine and the limited scope of their cranium is to blame.[2] If the Dweller replied that they prefer mass destruction, the thinker would promise to give them their fill.[3]

Though originally theorized to be an alternative portrayal of the Nightkin as "utopian idealists", the dialogue script clearly shows all dialogue options lead to the thinker attacking, including those where the Dweller agrees, whether after some persuasion[4] or immediately.[5] Low intelligence replies would cause the thinker to attempt to take the Dweller by force, [6] and declining the invitation would lead the thinker to clarify that they were not requesting aid, and that the Dweller's presence will be made (and then they would attack).[7] If the Dweller somehow got away, upon return the thinker would welcome them back and immediately attack.[8]

Appearances

Chris was supposed to appear in the original Fallout.
