Possible Relic of the War That Wasn't Suggestion - Again

Hey there Chad. We were talking about industrial uses of diamonds in chat, and I remembered an interesting bit of history from the Cold War, more specifically, the early space race. Although not directly relating to the war, the 1961 Mohole Project was an attempt to drill all the way into the Mohorovicic Discontinuity, the layer of earth separating the earth's crust and mantle. The project was supposed to bring as much attention to Earth science as astronomical science was then getting, but ended up being a failure. While the first phase of the plan was completed, support for the project dwindled before phase two could start, and it was abandoned. Neat stuff I think! Question

Does the Relic of the War that wasn't "corner" have to be about weaponry, vehicles or safe deposits (like nuclear deposits, to say) or can it be everything else, as long as it affected Cold War a bit (let's say there was a secret project that was testing people on what they ate - how they behave (not true, of course))?

Ace's Theatre

I think these boys may have potential for a gig at the Aces. This holodisk recording is a bit rough because they had just recently lost their horn section to some muties. But rest assured, they are recruiting new talent and giving it their all in the meantime. The song is one of their own compositions, called "the Shady Sands Shuffle."

FO:A Schedule

Yo, Chad. Regarding Fallout: Apprentice, I'm actually going to be absent from the 20th of September until October 4th. Didn't realise that this would interrupt the Fallout: Apprentice schedule. I can finish Challenge 4 before the 19th of September, and when I return I'll be able to finish Round 5 before the voting starts but after the deadline, if you're okay with that.

I wish that our engagements could be on healthier terms, however, several of your admins show a keen dislike for our staff, and obnoxiously point fingers and accuse our members. It is for this reason that I, and other admins, believe that a neutral ground is likely not to be accomplished. Weird Crash

Hello Agent C. I have a question for you. In Fallout: New Vegas I had a very strange crash. I was at Jean sky Driving and on a road there were two powder gangers. Now I zig zaged so i don't get shot by them and killed one. Now second guy who had some rifle on him came at me with his fists and attacked me until i backed away when he stooped. When I approached him again he puled out his rifle now invisible and game crashed. Now my question is this something that happened to others or is it specific for my playthrough. Chat abuse

Hello, I was at chat a few hours ago and I was talking like normal when many people started to disagree with me and then started to get really nasty with me like real calling me stupid and stuff then I asked to change the subject to talk about fallout but they were like "no, we're not done trolling you" and continued to troll me. I kept asking like several times to change the subject and stop picking on me but they wouldn't listen. Finally one of them kicked me out of the chat. There were many mods and admins around at the time but they did nothing to stop instead thrashed me and admitted to troll me. I don't have any proof because I refreshed the page after the kick and forgot to take pictures first. Maybe I overreacted but I tried many times to change the subject and they wouldn't listen because they even adimited that they wnted to keep trolling me. This is power abuse and not the behaviour that should be tolerated on the chat. I want to report the issue, if it's not to you then like tell me who to go please. Achievement list

You mean some kind of generated list of for example everyone that has made more than 1000 edits, or everyone that has uploaded more than 250 images? No, that isn't possible to my knowledge. However, you can take a look at the leaderboard and browse the 19 users to see what they have achieved. It's not that large a list and you can get some data from it. You can click on the image to see how many more have achieved that certain badge. For example I know now there are 47 people with 1000 main space edits or more. Should have been a 100 but ok :) You may miss a few names because of they are outside the top 19 (like Limmie and Gunny), but you'll get pretty far I think. Jspoel 20:41, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you can make a printscreen of the top 19 at the beginning of the week for reference and see if something changes at the end of week or after a few days. Usage of the chart template

Hey, C. That template isn't the easiest thing to use. I've made a few basic usage templates, but each quest is going to have to have those templates modified to fit the exact quest tree. I'm not certain that new users without any wikicode experience will be able to tackle it. New User Network info for me

Hi! I'm in Central Time (CST) except during Daylight Savings Time (or is it the other way around? Time confuses me like that). Preferred game right now is Fallout 3, although I'm trying to finagle my way into getting the first two as well; I played the original Fallout /years/ ago (13 years? something like that) and it obviously stuck with me. When Fallout 3 came out, I wanted to play it, but didn't have the system at the time (PC gaming? What's that? :P ). I happened across a used copy earlier this year and snapped it up like nobody's business!

Oops, sorry, you didn't ask for a life story. I'm likely to edit late at night (11 pm CST and later) and occasionally during the day. I have a strong English/grammar background, so the edits I've done so far have all been for readability.

Fo:A resignation

Due to the beginning of college and an awkward work shift error beyond my foresight in the previous week, I have not been able to even begin conceptualizing on my Fallout: Apprentice entry for this week.

With that, other notions of waning success with my previous entries and a lack of confidence in face of the competition in general, I hereby resign from Fallout: Apprentice and will not be submitting any more entries.

I never really expected myself to win anyway and it mainly served as a fun side-hobby for me to refine my writing skills and to make a community contribution.

Eden2012

I followed some of it yesterday, but you probably know by know I'd like to stay away from endless long drama scenes. I'm not sure what to think of it, this is the first time in my entire wiki membership I've seen a member locking his blog and others protesting. Probably would have been best if just Leon handled it being the first admin and no one else got involved. He used his judgement and backed those up with policy rules. I tend to believe it was once Eden2012's blog but after comments it was no longer completely his. And locking it just because he didn't like the way it was going is a pretty lame thing to do if you ask me. I do understand Eden's point of view and it probably came as a surprise to him he was backpedaled by Leon, because he plain just had the option of disabling comments. So why shouldn't be allowed? But in this case, certainly with the popularity of the blog and an admin's view of the matter it should stay open I think. We all didn't see this coming and we may need to add a more specific guideline about locking a blog and an admin's right to undo that. Jspoel 22:59, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

It's called the Mediation Corner and can be found here: TheMediationCorner. What the aim of this is is to take away disputes from the forum and settle it one on one, in a more private controlled setting, with tactics for compromise employed by me. The set up is pretty basic, and is subject to change depending on the situation. We start by getting both sides of the dispute presented by each party, then we have the users step in eachother's shoes for a moment, to better understand how they feel. Absence

My New User Network tool box

I am honest and most of all ~ I mean no harm.

I acknowledge many of my short comings and personal hurdles.

• 1. I have anger issues, No cure in site but I do V.A. scheduled treatments.
• 2. I can't spell better than a 5th grader.
• 3. My passions some times get the better of me. This relates back to number one and the anger issues but it also counts as one my strengths, because if I did not care I so much I would let things go that I know at times must be challenged.

What I bring to the table as a mentor is :

• 1. First and fore most I wish to be a member in good standing.
• 2. I try my best to always be open minded, fair and just in all my deliberations. This means I understand we are all human and there fore subject to lapses of good judgment and potential outbursts.
• 2.a. My preferred style of meditation is to, take a long breath, momentarily remove myself from the confrontation long enough to imagine how the conversation would sound from the other's side.
• 3 .If all else fails I would throw my self on the social grenade if it helps keep the peace.
• 4. I have played all but BOS tactics so I am quite knowledgeable. In fact when it comes to fallout 3 & New Vegas I can say with most unabashed certainty, "I am one of the main go to guys for tips and tricks" These games are like a new religion to me.
• 5. I have an artistic eye for screen shots & I could help new members develop their own artistic eye.
• 6. Although I can't spell worth a damn, I do have an extensive vocabulary and a creative mind. {Some might call it insane}

I'm preferential to the eccentric label if I really must have one.

Bottom line, I encourage these things.

• 1. Play nice as you can and do all you can to help keep the fun going!
• 2. Do onto others as you would have done or said to you. It is OK to be odd just try not to be a bully.
• 3. Recognize we are all just flawed human beings & in the end, our ultimate goal is just to waist some time, share a smile or two and help each other get the most out of the games we all share as a common interest.

As I said I am always willing to help any member at any time as best I can but I would be best matched with a new member who has a creative flair, loves the games and really wants to be a part of the community.

Glitching/buggy/unresponsive chat

I've been having periodic trouble with chat lately, it's randomly unresponsive forcing me to exit and come back repeatedly. News Digest

Well, I LOVE Fallout 3, but I mostly play for achievements, so when I finish them, I'm unlikely to play that game again(I've finished Fallout 3 sadly). For now, I'm going to be working on Fallout: New Vegas, and once finished with that, I will likely move onto Deus Ex: Human Revolution (to which I've already made an edit). Couldn't tell you very much more as I'm kinda going as it goes if you get my meaning. Time varies. Whether or not I have work the next day is a heavy influence on what times I'm on FO:NV. I'm on Pacific Time, and usually, if I don't have work or school, I'll be online from 1pm to 2am. However I tend to switch to multiplayer/co-op games around 11pm or 12 am.

Interview Answers

Well Chad, the final entries were both nice. I don't mean to toot my own horn here, especially considering my low placement in the leader boards of this challenge, but when I started out writing up my Fallout idea for the SNM all those months ago, I didn't have the full picture that I have today. (Hell, I still don't.)

Either way, their editing skills and creativity showed through with their willingness and ability to either find pictures or come up with them and that is something that can be held over my head in this criticism.

As far as story goes I'm actually kinda disappointed at the lack of detail but again, this stuff takes awhile to flesh out. I have the utmost confidence that if they both keep working on this long after it's over their ideas will be grandiose among pettiness.

If there was any challenge I enjoyed doing the most, it was probably the one where I made a town or the location as both are pivotal developments in a good story as well as fun to visualize.

If there was any challenge I would've wished to have been able to participate in it would be the last one! I have a total of 4 blogs describing another Fallout in extreme detail. Five if you count the FEV fanon blog and many more if you count the ones still in my head, which I don't expect you to.

But as my efforts have shown, I could not even keep up with the challenge set before me let alone the competition and for that I do not deserve to be praised as much as our final two contestants.

Again, I feel the need to apologize, I actually feel a bit bummed we couldn't do it, although I probably would've had a hard time answering 3 and 4 on the spot lol. Anyway, here's my answers:

Unlike some of my ideas, the Celestial Order was not an idea that just came to me out of nowhere. It actually first started when I read how multiple people wanted magic added to the next Fallout. While at first I hated the idea, it got me thinking about the psykers that have appeared throughout the series and made me wonder what a Fallout game would be like if the main character was one of them. It was through that thinking that I later came up with the idea of Riza, a psychic companion, and as I thought of her, her family, various relationships, it eventually developed in to the Celestial Order.

If there’s one challenge I wish I could have done, it would be Challenge 5, to create a post ending DLC. I had a small idea for an independent quest line involving tunnelers appearing in every major town and attacking, all of the Securitrons suddenly going berserk and attacking people, forcing Yes Man to shut down the whole network (including himself), and the NCR attacking out of nowhere, with captured soldiers claiming that they're attacking because Securitrons invading and attacking the Hub. It would eventually come clear that all these acts are not a coincidence, but it's unknown who could possibly be causing them.

I like both of the final entries, honestly. Old World Relic’s New York City idea of starting out as a random scavenger in New Jersey that suddenly wakes up in New York without a clue sounds interesting and the new Brotherhood being antagonists is a bit of a twist, plus I always thought NYC could be a good location. Crimson Frankie’s idea on the other hand seems more detailed and I like the use of motorcycles and the new hardcore ideas, although charging the Pip-Palm every couple days may be a pain.

As for who would win, I'm not exactly sure. While I think it may be close race, I have a feeling Crimson Frankie might be the winner. Paladin117^{>>iff bored;} 00:34, October 31, 2012 (UTC)

Chad, I'm finished with the critique on OWR's entry for the finale. I don't know where to put it (I'm guessing it's on the finale gala page itself, but I won't risk), so I'm pasting it here so you can move it to wherever is appropriate. The critique is as follows:

First of all, I’d like to say that it’s been an honour to compete in Fallout: The Apprentice; there’s a lot I've learnt from it, and it’s a pleasure to compete against such a creative guy as Relics. I have many things to talk about concerning his entry. Relics himself suggested that we critiqued each other’s entries, and I think it’s actually a very good idea. Obviously (like in all critiques), I have good and bad points to bring up, but all of them of constructive nature, and with the intention of adding, rather than simply deconstructing his work. I’ll start with the cons, so we can get them out of the way already. ;-)

Cons

• The player-character should have had a name;
• The questline sounded a bit of a linear one, as it kind of guided you through the alleys and streets of the game many an occasion, rather than inciting you to make your own way through a larger option of paths. That’s why I think it’s important to have a wasteland. A part that expresses this would be when you say “You decide it's time to bed down for the night”, as if that was a standard happening in the game and the player has no choice concerning the matter, when you usually don’t have that kind of feature in Fallout (or many RPGs, for that matter);
• I loved the Central Triangle as the trading hub of NY, but I think that the down point was that many conflicting groups were found there, which would have made its socio-political order up to the game’s time very much devastated by local wars and whatnot (its context seems even more confictful than in Freeside XD) . I think you could have even exploited that a little bit;
• A couple of factions seemed a bit displaced there. Although I loved the creation of brand new ones (like ACR, whose conception seemed very interesting), others such as the Followers of the Apocalypse – whose coming remained unexplained – and Super Mutants – to whose appearance the explanation was simply “for old time’s sake” and “theirs detail some minor background story of the Capital Wasteland” – might be deemed a little displaced;
• Vaults were built by Vault-Tec all around the US, and are among the most remarkable trademarks in Fallout. Where are they in the Big Apple?

Pros

• Loved the idea that Jersey is the “refugee camp of post-apocalyptic NY”. That brings up a myriad of sociological nuances that place NY and NJ as opposing sides of the “Cruel/hopeful” reality of mankind. Very nice!
• I loved how you truly delved into the geography of the city, naming places and specifying locations that actually exist. That gives the player more familiarity and more to have fun from as they face the reality that one day their city may become;
• Although I think that BoS should be long gone XD, I do think that your BoS felt very nice, with that dark, reckless aura about their demeanour;
• I like the way the civil war breaks out in the city, from a progressive chain of happenings that explain themselves as you describe each participant in the city’s history and social scenario;
• I absolutely loved the plot twist with the man that got startled at the sight of the pip-boy wrapped around your wrist was actually the player’s character. That’s a creative piece of dramatic turn right there!
• I personally liked a lot the Central Traders. The made me reflect upon the communal intricacies that could flesh out from a union of merchants (or of any other working class, to be honest). Fallout is a game made to generate critical insights in us as to how humanity would bear the horrors of post-apocalypse, and how the so-called order of our civilisational nature would stand the test of time and blood. Bringing up a human “sketch” of formal organisation (very similar to the Hub) was spot-on. Congrats.
• I liked the ironic symbolism of a BoS Chapter using the Statue of Liberty as their HQ;
• The Swines Club seems to be a great place to chill out a little bit;
• The Hammerlock’s Exotic Animals would be a very good idea to finally have random animals as “companions” throughout the player’s journey in a Fallout game. Good job!
• The new features, especially the destructible environment and the hawk, are awesome! Great work thinking of them! ;-)
• Thanks for naming that scavenger after me! :-D

Well, that’s it. I hope that my critique help you enrich some of the already well-done features of your entry. You did a great job, Nate, and I’m sure you have that creative touch inside you that you can develop even more throughout your life.

Agent C; look at any wiki for New Vegas and tell me this is not a "detailed strategy wiki". I can go through dozens of articles here and point out "needless information", so I don't get why you two are trying so hard to keep something as harmless as what I edited out of the wiki. It's there for people who don't want to just "kill" Jain, and would rather have her make the first move.

Frankie's Finale Critique

Hey chad, sorry about taking so long with this critique, especially after it was my idea..but anyways, it's as follows.

First off, I'd like to start by saying, Frankie, it has been an honour playing this contest with you, and each of the other talented contestants that have played this game with us. It really has been something I won't soon forget. But, like everything, it's end has come. Anyways, to your outstanding finale entry Frankie. Overall, again you have given us a great story and a tremendous amount of detail and I commend you for that. I'll but, since this is a critique there are still a few points I'd like to raise so I'll do Pros and Cons also.

Cons

• I feel that a little more detail could have been put into your "dungeon" including maybe a infobox and a few clearer notes about the location it self.
• I love the more hardcore mode, yet, as someone who honestly isn't the best Fallout player and gets tired of too much realism in games (Eh? Isn't that why we play Video games, to get away from real life) I feel it could get a little much for some. Aha but I guess that's why it's optional ;)
• I feel that maybe you could have spotlighted a few cities in more detail to really give us a feeling of what each city really held.

Pros - I can say it was much easier thinking of Pros then Cons

• The amount of detail you put into some of the images - especially for your new Factions - is mind blowingly amazing. Great job on those Frankie!!
• I love the number of possible end game solutions this time around. By adding more it allows for each game play-thought to be something new every-time and lets the player play how they want.
• The amount of detail put into you main quest line is great. It's a series of quests I'd love to play any day. Nice job.
• Your new features such as the Pip-Palm, return of vehicles and extreme hardcore mode are great and I'm sure would attrach many different kinds of players to the game.
• And of course, you names a character after me! Thanks for that =)

Overall Frankie, you have put together one hell of an amazing entry and I look forward to seeing the Finale winner. I can say, you deserve it just as much as myself, if not more. Hi. I didn't know it was just you and one other guy that runs this page. I noticed you went back and edited my edit. Mine was not very well worded I will give you that "Needless to say since these are special encounters, none of them are canon."

But I noticed you still left the door open for it to be canon "It shouldn't be considered canon."

For the love of God man why would anyone consider them canon? They aren't. The Reason why I came in and started editing them is because a freaking moron came on to the forum saying. "Bethesda considers Fallout and Fallout 2 therefore the special encounters are canon. The guy also said "the wiki doesn't say they aren't canon so therefore they are canon."

Please help stop morons like that and just say they are none canon. They aren't canon. If so I am looking forward to Klingons invading the Wasteland *Sarcasm*

I am also talking to you on the forum, but still. Are you going to do the right thing and just say they aren't canon please? As I have shown you on the forum there are morons that think they are canon and even use your sight to "prove it." As in "it doesn't say anything about them not being none-canon."

Canon fire

Ok, I'm probably not the best to ask about canon issues, but here's my take: We, Nukapedia, are not in a position to *determine* what is or is not canon. The only people who can do that is Bethesda. So, for the wording on those pages, I would say that if there is any concrete quotation from Bethesda (or earlier Interplay) about the canonicity, then that should be parroted. If there is none, we can use soft language stating the doubtful or ambiguous nature of the canonicity, but not outright declare the event non-canon. That's just not in our purview. Hope that helps. Pip/vault boy

Please Clarify: The 2 terms are not interchangeable. The image is OF the Vault boy and I understand this, but a visual representation of anything (armor, ammmo, etc) in the Pip-boy itself is called an Icon when referenced elsewhere on this wiki. I am trying to reference the Pip-boy's usage, not the content of the image itself.

If I am doing that incorrectly, then I thank you for the correction, and in advance for any further clarification you can provide.

After I understand fully, I still intend to edit to remove the redundant use of the word image, unless there is something about that I should know as well?

That helps somewhat but doesn't fully clarify. This page http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Blast_Off_pajamas uses the term Pip-boy icon, and it appears to do so correctly. I think the problem I am having is that the Pip-boy icon I tried to reference is also a Vault Boy Image. Is this just a case of one trumping the other?

Excellent clarification. Thank you. Would I then be correct if I changed the Blast Off Pajamas page and others using the term Pip-boy Icon to say "image on the Pip-boy" instead? Also, I am still going to edit Spineless to remove the redundant use of 'image' but I will keep the proper use of Vault Boy now that I understand.
