Stealth Boys

Anyone else thing the devs got REALLY FSCKING LAZY at the very end? If they wanted to make it as hard as possible to get out of the Sierra Madre with the loot, they could have just said that Elijah is familiar with Stealth Boys and immune to the Holorifle - which is the most powerful weapon available. It would make perfect sense for Elijah to give the key player a weapon he'd come to depend on, yet he was immune to! Instead they just waved the Magic Developer Wand and said "OMG I IS NO CAN HURT BY HOLOW GUN LS I TURN ON FRZFILD OK HER I GO SHUTE ME - I CAN SEEZ U STELTH BOY I MAK FRRZFILD GO SLAM SHUTE ME NOWZ". Better yet, he can run through the fscking forcefield even if it's on, as long as he's running from me! What. DID HE TURN IT OFF JUST TO FSCK WITH MY HEAD? And the security system's version CAN lock him in? Give me a break.Kalaong 19:36, December 22, 2010 (UTC)

Damn dude calm down, it’s a game! For one thing it makes perfect sense that stealth boys would have little to no effect on him. He's a former Brotherhood of Steal and he would be trained in stealth boy technology. Because he’s coming down there against his better judgment he’s obviously going to be alert to any suspicious activity on your part.
Stealth boys don’t make you invisible, just very hard to see to the unknowing observer. I’m sure you can notice Nightkin when they’re cloaked cant you? Similar to Operation Anchorage in Fallout 3, once you knew to look for them the Chinese wearing the stealth armor were pretty easy to spot.
Secondly he isn’t immune to the Holorifle, you can kill him with it. What happens is he is immune to any weapon until he sounds the alarm and turns on the force field. It might be a little bit of a shortcut on the developers part, but I’ve seen worse. Basically they didn’t want you getting out with all the gold. If you’re encumbered, you cant move fast enough to either sneak past him and get to the elevator or escape the vault if you kill him in time. Give it time, I’m sure some clever person will figure out a workaround or exploit to getting out with all the gold. ReapTheChaos 17:16, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Not to anger you, but you need to remember that they run a budget, and most of it went into making a massive open world game. So before you start bitching again, you try making a fallout with a Small budget... you skittish bastard.--The OutCasts 10:49, December 23, 2010 (UTC)--The OutCasts 10:49, December 23, 2010 (UTC)

The critic does go a bit overboard but he/she has a point. Fallout 3/New Vegas and associated DLC are in some ways very well designed, but this makes their slips all the more obvious. Perhaps Elijah could see you with a stealth boy on (one would think it would be harder, though, even for him), but all too often in these games, stealth boys work and don't work in a weirdly random way. There are, to put it politely, a LOT of loose ends and the "on a budget" excuse won't fly for all of them. My own personal pet peeve is that the engine obviously needs replacement. The first time I ended Dead Money, I dashed to the door after killing Elijah only to have the game crash to desktop as soon as I tried to access the elevator. New Vegas in general has 1995 levels of stability and the various patches have done little to cure the problem. In Dead Money alone, I had at least a dozen unexplained crashes and freezes (and yes, my system specs are well above minimum). No wonder some people get hot under the collar and blow off steam at what seems like nothing to others. Wunengzi 14:18, February 28, 2011 (UTC)
Stealth Boys work as intended, but in NV they are not "magical superpowers" like FO3. Not only the sneak level counts, but your armor too, if you have medium/heavy armor they make noise and even if you have 100 sneak + a stealth boy, running instead of walking next to a foe wearing medium/heavy armor makes them listen to you (unless you have the Silent Running perk). They don't find you, but they will be alerted. This is also true regarding Elijah, he can't find you but he will be aware that you are in the vacinity. If you wish to test, wear a medium armor and then a light armor, you will see the difference or try to complete the quest Come Fly with Me without killing the Nightkins, you'll have a hard time because they can see beyond a stealth boy and will spot you if too close to them. They are trained for this, remember? As for the bugs I agree with you, NV looks like CoD Black Ops, too buggy for my tastes, but I can overlook because of the story. But is too buggy, no one can denied it. Brfritos 01:43, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

not possible to get all gold

So it's basically impossible to get out with all the gold. Whoever wrote those steps must have come across a glitch. Elijah will see you when you go on the stairs and then activate the forcefield leaving you screwed. Is there any way to do it? I just can't figure out how. It sucks how they tease you like that. --155.138.3.20 01:16, March 23, 2011 (UTC)Skrote

The whole ending just plain sucks. I'm stuck trying to use the exploit mentioned and it's just NOT WORKING AT ALL. I won't go forward though, I've played through three times and I'm NOT doing it again. Someone PLEASE tell me how to get the gold so I can go back to Mojave.

It reminds me of Fable 2, where I hunted down all freakin' 50 gargoyles to get the reward, which turns out to be a ROTTEN APPLE! What the HECK?? --- HelenaHanbazkt

Wow, way to miss the room in the back containing the awesome crossbow LucidDreams 01:55, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

It is possible to get all of the gold. Gather up all of the gold and go cue the conversation with elijah. Once you convince him to come down to the vault immediately turn around and head for the door he comes through. The one on your right when you leave the vault. Once you get to the force field go to your inventory and drop the gold, i got lucky and the gold fell through the force field and landed on the other side. At this point elijah will have spotted you and turned on the alarms. Run back inside the vault while christine screws with the turrets. Once that is done go out and kill elijah. Immediately after killing him run back the way you first came through to get to the vault. One key area to save you time is in the room with the cloud on the floor level. Don't spend time navigating the rafters here, just jump off to the ground floor and head to the stairs in the corner of the room to get out (taking those stairs should bring you into a small room with some supplies). Continue the path out but once you go through the maintenance door you need to go to the doorway with the force field where elijah would have walked out, the one where you dropped the gold. You can now pick the gold up and head for the elevator. The collar will be beeping faster by now but you should still have enough time to get out with all of the gold. This might take you a few tries in order to get the timing just right, it did for me. My biggest problems were getting the gold to drop through the force field, then finding the fastest way to get back to the other side and having enough time to get the gold and SLOWLY making my way to the elevator. Hope this helps. ----teddanson

New Sneak Strategy

I don't know if anyone else realized this but when you're trying to sneak around Elijah instead of trying to get in the room protected by the forcefields before he spots you you could just go back through the room with all the hologram guards and just backtrack to the elevator. I did this and wasn't spotted by Elija so he got locked in the vault and I got the achievement. I had a stealthboy on, but I don't think it would be too necessary since I'm going through a different room than he's in so he'd be less likely to spot me. Has anyone else tried this? I thought of this because I kept getting spotted by Elija before I got in the room with the forcefields. Berkbelts 22:39, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to say that this strategy worked perfectly for me. I sprinted out of the vault, took the left tunnel, dodged the holograms (though I did get shot once) and was stopped at a locked maintenance door. Disaster! But after Elijah gives his speech about being in control of the casino, he still becomes trapped, the maintenance door unlocks, and you can escape via the elevator. Thank you!

I was wanting to ask about this. I have been planning to use an exploit (unless it's been patched) or a Mod to get gear into the Dead Money Campaign. The thing is, I want to get the Father Elijah Hologram ending, but somehow still get his rifle (and maybe his robes). Can you pickpocket him and still lock him up alive? Or for that matter, can you use bean bag rounds to knock him out w/o killing him and still take his stuff?  :?

I found his robes in an enclave-like locker in the abandoned BOS bunker after going back to the mojave. Holythirteen (talk) 22:16, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

How long the game gives you to get past the force fields to go the long way around depends on the replies you give. If you reply Science or Sneak, he seems to show up fast, Barter is medium, passive 'not going anywhere because the collar' was the longest IIRC. I was about 15 seconds short of making it to the elevator with all the gold the long way around with the longest wait reply. With all the gold it is possible to go directly at him fall through the field during the few millisecond he turns it off to pass through, but that means no BoS robe or rifle. Search Youtube for ["Dead Money" gold] for a video how to. GRPeng 05:43, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

New Sneak Strategy #2

Hello; Just tried to complete it different ways, because the article doesn't say how many XP you can earn, and I found a simple but very effective way to quickly finish this the sneaky way: wait inside the room, closed, until Elijah takes a look at the monitor just outside the door, then run: the blue barrier will not trigger until he notices you're running out, in fact when he leaves the monitor, and you'll be already at the elevator. Christine?

Can you find and talk to Christine in the casino after Heist of the centuries? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.27.35.32 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

I cant find any of the NPCs after this quest, I searched everywhere in the casino but couldnt find them (except Veras room, damn holograms). Does anyone know where they go? Ouroboros Omega 19:43, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

Spoiler Alert! If you saved everyone, the end game cinematic tells what happened to them. They were at the fountain, but do not wait for you much longer, going separate ways. Brfritos 01:48, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

Ah, so they cant be found at the end and you have to leave without them... pity but oh well. Ouroboros Omega 13:54, March 1, 2011 (UTC)

You can get a mod to re-hire them later.

ps3 bug?

ok so i beat dead money and got stuck in the BoS bunker and had to un/reinstall the game in order to get out. anyways i went to a previous save right at the vault and wanted the moneys and the weapon repair kit code. so anyway again, i jump inside and grab some gold and convince elijah to come down. once he's down and i've gone through the maze i get an update saying elijah is dead and i've successfully avoided detection (he's still alive..) and updates again to say go through and escape the vault..so i go to the elevator and i end up back in veras room instead of completing the game and being taken to the villa..i can go through the casino to the front door but it says i need a key. i think it's bugged because it needs the update or something to complete it. (im playing off the original install (no updates (they were deleted))).

tl;dr deleted updates. cant go through the elevator and go to cut scene and get ported back to the villa. elijah's alive even though it says he's dead and i've "sneaked past him". (which is both trap and kill achievements at the same time)

Cant trap elijah

ok, so evrytime elijah is going to open the door and im quite well hidden the alarm starts sounding and all the sentry guns are shooting at me and elijah wont get in the fucking vault. Is this because I talked to christine about killing elijah? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.90.45.144 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

It seems to me that Elijah never enters the vault, but he goes to the exterior terminal and tries to access the vault from there. And when he does he trips the trap, the security turns on permanently and barriers go up, sealing him in the room but not literally the vault itself. Even if you're hidden, if you are still within the barriers as well, you're locked in and must fight Elijah. But if you're on the outside of the 4 barriers (maze section of that floor), then he realizes he's been tricked and triggers your collar, you must run for your life, etc. HunterOrionSix 00:40, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Vault Security Terminal Glitch

okay, so i got to the hologram room, disabled everything, grabbed the vault turret terminal password went to the terminal and it only gave me the options to read the Vault Security Protocols Information or read the Vault Security Protocols Warning. There is no way to disable the other force fields or turrets. I've reloaded a dozen times and it never works. Someone please help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.189.238.146 (talkcontribs). Easy click the "Vault Security Protocols" when after you do this you get the option to disable the security system. It then warns you that if someone does this then activates the Terminal in the Vault the elevator will be sealed.

~Thanks for posting this-- we were going crazy trying to figure out where to go with this! It did a poor job of explaining it in the main article. Kerriskea 13:06, September 28, 2011 (UTC) 28092011, Kerriskea

Keeping the gold...

Since someone decided to remove some of the listed methods of getting the gold out, I'll put the main one here.

Get inside the vault and get the gold bars. Drop them beside the vault door, and make sure you aren't overburdened. Now, turn off the security and talk to Father Elijah, convincing him to come down. Immediately afterward, run over and grab the bars, open the door, and as quickly as you can, make your way to the foot of the stairs to the far right. Drop the gold bars about 4 feet away (any closer triggers the force fields)and hide behind the nearby sparking machine, and use a stealth boy. Watch as Father Elijah approaches the vault. After he turns to face it, he hesitates twice. After the second one, grab the gold bars and run up the stairs (don't forget to stand up). You should have a couple of seconds buffer, so don't worry if you hesitate a moment. Make your way through the maintenance doors and leave.

It's easier than it sounds. I did it on my first try, and since there is a couple of seconds extra time before he comes down the stairs, you could also get out the armour and such if those overburden you too. LucidDreams 04:23, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

This Works ! Took a couple of tries but got there in the end. I also used the 1 Turbo i found somewhere in Sierra Madre. Could have done that without Turbo too. Thanks for this instruction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.108.9.207 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

This really works for those that want to keep the gold you don't need to drop the gold at the second part before running out, just hide behind the sparking machine and move around it slowly to keep father Elijah on the opposite side from you. as long as you have 100 stealth (90 with assassin suit) you don't need a stealth boy. After he gets to the terminal by the vault door you can unsneak and make for the door before the force shield comes up. If done right the force shield will come up right as you make it through the door and you make make your exit completing the quest and getting the ACH. 184.97.23.39 17:50, September 3, 2011 (UTC)heero

I would like to say that LucidDreams should receive a medal for this, really helped me out.

You don't need a stealth boy and my sneak was very low (25 boosted by La Fantoma (+20). I found it easier to sneak round so the generator is always between Me and Elijah and only properly stand up once he went for the Terminal to open the vault, any earlier got me caught. THANK YOU SO MUCH Deathsteel 22:31, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

This does work, the KEY THING IS you need to be walking across the door that will have a force field up at the same time Elijah is at the vault door. He has a 2 second delay or so that you need to use. You cannot set the shield off early obviously and you can not be too late or you won't make it. Hide behind the shock power-thingy with all the gold and just try to get the right timing! Dragonalumni (talk) 18:30, January 23, 2013 (UTC)
I must submit my props to the poster of this idea also, all hail LucidDreams. Thanks to others for the extra advice also. I kept getting too close to the bottom of the stairs and activating the forcefield, you pretty much have to drop the gold at the bottom of the stairs, turn right and sneak away while humping the generator the whole time, then keep the generator between you and elijah and don't walk too fast or he spots you, then wait for the right time to grab your gold and sneak out. I thought I had a fair amount of caps, being a bit of a hoarder, being able to do this little trick pretty much tripled them. Let go? Screw you Dead Money I'm not dropping my Gold! :D Holythirteen (talk) 23:41, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I find the same glitch. I Killed Elijah & ened up in Vera Keyes's suite. If I try to go back down my collar explodes & if I try to leave the cassino my collar explodes.

I just want OUT of this quest.. Please ~ Is there a console command to get back to Vegas ?

Keep your Dead Money I just want OUT of this worthless DLC.

  • HOW TO FIX MOST OF THIS GLITCH !

PCPC After killing Elijah, the elevator might take you to Vera's suite instead of the Villa's Fountain. If this happens this quest will not advance as it should & If you try to go back down to the vault your collor will explode, also if you try to leave the Cassino, your collor will explode. However, if you use the console commands TGM & UNLOCK on the Cassino's doors you will survive & be taken to the fountain. Head to the locked gate to the wastlands. Drop all the gear you can then change the point of veiw so you see your character's body. Again open console commands ~ Highlight the player's name & type the command ShowInventory Find the code for your player's collor & use the command Player.RemoveItem X # { X=item code #= how many } This should remove the collor. Then pick up your gear & go to the Waistland gate & command code UNLOCK just as you did to leave the cassino. This will allow the slide show to play & you will be taken back to The BHS bunker. There, beyond the radio stand you can now access the footlockers under the cots for ammo & other items. Now go into Elijah's lab & use the UNLOCK command on the desk computer to gain Elijah's Ramblings also UNLOCK The BHS foot locker for Elijah's robes & finnaly, go to the bunker's exit & use the Command UNLOCK on the footlocker just right of the ladder to regain all the equipment you entered the bunker with. So even though the Quest will not offically end, you will at least be abel to contenue & still gain nearly all the perks & items you normally would have if the game had not Bugged.

TU4?

I've been looking around trying to figure out what this even is, and as far as I can tell it's an independent xbox hack, the kind of thing that will get your xbox banned from 'live. so my question is this: assuming my research is correct, why is this in the wiki? we don't support help for independent mods or anything similar to it, only official stuff, so if you have a bug related to a mod, it shouldn't be here, so can someone tell me I'm wrong before I remove it? I'm going to give it another three days or so--Katikar 14:16, May 19, 2011 (UTC)

->Title Update 4. It's M$speak for patch 1.3.0.444. Dig down into System Setting > Memory > primary storage device > Games > Fallout New Vegas and you'll see the patch is called Title Update # where # is the version of the patch. 142.167.248.127 21:26, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

well there are two things wrong with that: 1. it shouldn't be called "TU4" it should be called "patch 1.3.0.444" because no one knows what "TU4" is. also, I have said patch, but I experienced no troubles in the completion of honest hearts (except that I have no idea how you are supposed to lock father elijah in, since killing him seems to be the only way to leave)--Katikar 6:58, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Exploring

The explosive collar will have been automatically removed upon arrival in the Villa, which makes navigating the outlying areas much, much easier and allows exploration of previously unavailable locations.

Where are the previously unavailable locations? Using Christine's perk, I was able to explore every location before entering the casino. I did miss the Automatic rifle upgrade code, I wanted to use it on Elijah. GRPeng 04:20, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

Can't see HOTC quest in journal screen!!

I came along all that damn road and found the Cristine. Problem is I complete this DLC before and I know that she suppose to talk more. She talks a little and give me only one option like "wait here I will make Elijah slow dance!" After I pick that option Last Luxuries quest ends but Heist of The Centuries never starts. Even after I got all the audio logs nothing changes. I'm stuck badly. I'm looking for a console command that I can trigger the quest manually but I think there is no.

Heist of the Centuries bug ?

Hello guys, I've been having a problem with the Dead Money DLC. Last part of the game where I'm supposed to go down and "discover" the vault, I have christine say the password (and tried it another time myself but with same result), the quest shows I have to Discover the vault now. so I go down the elevator where you find the door that leads inside the vault... The thing is, the door is not opening! It gives me a quest log saying "Discover The secrets of Sierra Madre's Vault Chamber" but when I try to go through the door it does not open !

Any ideas? thanks !

if your talking about the blue force field door you need to get the password in the mist, that had me stuck for some time also. Dragonalumni (talk) 18:33, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

Letting Go

Most people talk about how the moral of the story, 'letting go' is demonstrated with the gold bars at the bottom, though this spawned a thousand and one subjects on how to balk that lesson. I really found there were a lot more ways that that lesson is demonstrated though. Elijah's refusal to give up control, the player having to give up the Sierra Madre at the end, and, very poignantly, having to let go of your new friends almost as soon as you've made them, several times as you first (spoilers) abandon them one by one, and then slay them one by one (mainstream-ly). Not to mention at the very beginning, having to let go of your badass equipment and learn to play the game with just your character again. Losing all the various chems meant I failed a lot of skill challenges I otherwise would not have; You learn to let it go quickly. So don't think that managing to steal all the gold in the vault destroys the moral of the story: It's just there to drive it in for those who didn't quite get it. 174.57.198.105 20:06, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

Ghost People retreat?

After you get locked in the Sierra Madre you can hear bunches of Ghost People beating at the door whenever you're in the Lobby, right up until you go down into the Vault. They trickle in in numbers of four to six. Yet after the heist you can walk in and out of the doors and the Villa is just as dead as usual. What happened to the 'swarm of Ghost People attracted to the Gala Event'? If that ~20 you killed between chapters was the entirety of the horde, you gotta wonder who was pulling on the door after that.
