This is a hard boiled chicken egg painted with colored dyes.

The Easter egg is a miscellaneous item in Fallout 2.

Characteristics[]

A brightly-painted chicken egg, hard boiled. It is nothing but a novelty item and has no actual use.[Non-game 1]

Location[]

In the New Reno Arms basement. The Easter egg is in a pot hidden amongst a pile of crates, near the bottom left corner of the room.

Behind the scenes[]

According to Chris Avellone in Fallout Bible 8, the Easter egg was originally supposed to hatch a companion character named "Chicken."[Non-game 2] This character's data is still present in the party.txt record listing all in-game companions.[1]

Non-game

  1. Aaron Johnson: What does the Easter egg you find in New Reno do?
Chris Avellone: Nothing, it's just lame game developer humor - it was just there so we could say for sure there was an easter egg in the game. I like the icon for it, though.

  2. 1. In the \data\party.txt and \text\english\game\MISC.MSG was a record with 25 party members including Maria (older version of Miria?), a guy called McRae (Cassidy?), Doc (?), Chicken (?), Karl (that old wino from Den?) and even CarTrunk (what the heck?). The question is: are some of these unused party members or just older alter egos of the present party?
    1. Maria: Not sure. She could have been an older version of Miria, I think.
McRae used to be Cassidy. (See the answers to other questions elsewhere in this exciting issue!)
    Doc: Don't know.
The Chicken was the NPC that was supposed to hatch out of the easter egg.
    Karl: I don't know.
Trunk: I don't know. It was probably set up as an NPC so it could follow the player around and have an inventory, but I don't know for sure.
