"Esther" redirects here. For the name Esther as it appears in the Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor, see Hermit (Far Harbor). For an overview of other Fat Man variants, see Fat Man. |
Esther is a unique weapon added with the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Gun Runners' Arsenal.
Characteristics
Although it is 10 pounds heavier than a standard Fat Man, Esther is more durable, never jams, costs 10 less Action Points per attack, is more powerful with a direct damage value of 75, and is able to use the GRA mini nuke ammo types.
Visually, the weapon has a different rear mechanism, a blast shield, a light-blue body, and a thick clear glass or plastic bed holding the mini nuke.
When equipped, Esther provides unique defense bonuses. It grants a temporary 10 additional DT and 25 points of Radiation Resistance, giving the user extra protection from the damage caused by the weapon.
Durability
Esther can fire approximately 620 standard mini nukes from full condition before breaking. This is 125 mini nukes more than the standard Fat Man.

Notes
- Even with the added DT and Radiation Resistance, a mini nuke shot at anything closer than long-range can still kill the player character, especially with the Big Kid mini nukes; however, with maximum Damage Resistance of ×0.8, they can easily survive the blast on normal difficulty.
- Esther can contribute towards the Gun Runners' Arsenal challenges Master of the Arsenal, Overkill, and Curios and Relics.
- At 40 pounds, it is the heaviest weapon in the game, surpassing the standard Fat Man by 10 lbs. This can be cut down to 20 pounds with the Heavyweight perk.
- Esther's zoom targeting is more obstructed than the standard Fat Man due to the blast shield's thick frame.
- The increased DT and Radiation Resistance persist even when the weapon is holstered, similar to the unique weapon, Blood-Nap's Sneak bonus from the Lonesome Road add-on.
