My fellow Vault editors and users, I'd like to propose a fundamental change to our Interactions Overview blocks. I love Porter and so do you. But upon further review, I find the current set up to be confusing and misleading.

Few interactions[edit source]

For reference, here's the interactions overview for Algernon:

FriendlyFoe.png
This character is a temporary party member.
FriendlyFoe.png
This character is a permanent party member.
Medicine.png
This character is a doctor.

Barter.png
This character is a merchant. Sells: -
Handloader.png
This character can modify weapons.

See below

GoodNatured.png
This character starts quests.

-

Perk empathy synthesizer.png
This character is involved in quests.

-

As you can see, there's a lot of red X marks, adding a lot of visual noise, where all that would be necessary is a simple tag: This character modifies weapons.

I propose replacing the current set up with a table I developed:

Handloader.png
This character can modify weapons.

See below

No interactions[edit source]

This is even more noticeable with casino bouncers:

When all that would suffice:

Neutral.png
This character has no special interactions.

Lots of interactions[edit source]

On the example of Renesco:

FriendlyFoe.png
This character is a temporary party member.
FriendlyFoe.png
This character is a permanent party member.
Medicine.png
This character is a doctor.

Barter.png
This character is a merchant. Sells: Medical supplies and drugs
Handloader.png
This character can modify weapons.

-

GoodNatured.png
This character starts quests.

-

Perk empathy synthesizer.png
This character is involved in quests.

In my version:

Barter.png
This character is a merchant. Sells: Medical supplies and drugs
Perk empathy synthesizer.png
This character is involved in quests.

I propose immediate implementation. I am aware this will take a bit of time, since we have to go through the character pages by hand, but I'll gladly do it myself. After all, what's a few thousand articles? It will also give us a distinct new visual identity for these segments, which is always good. Tagaziel (talk) 12:25, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Comments and votes[edit source]

Yes The new change is very minimalistic, and more utilitarian than the previous one. Therefore, good. Do it. - Ephos (184.75.221.133 12:44, 9 March 2014 (UTC))

NeutralIcon neutral.png I don't know if completely changing the tag is needed. I know that the old version needs to be gone through, for example its order is usually off and caravan_player wasn't there for a good portion of FNV characters. See User:Ant2242/sandbox02 ;p--Ant2242 (talk) 14:57, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

I made it so that it's easily expandable and in a fairly logical order. The old table is fairly cluttered and needs an overhaul. Tagaziel (talk) 15:16, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

NeutralIcon neutral.pngYes Before we change all these tables (which I support), we should get all the workings down in the guidelines so there is no unnecessary confusion or guess work. After that, I can definitely lend a hand. Should we set up a project page too? --Kastera (talk) 16:26, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Once we nail down the guidelines and the contents, I think so. :) Tagaziel (talk) 16:36, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Yes I would be up for changing the tables, but I think the design could be improved. Like instead of having an icon then saying "merchant" or "Gives quests" the icons show that when being hovered over. That sound good? Shadowrunner(stuff) 19:19, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

I've separated them to make them easier to understand and also so that the new interactions would show up properly in case images fail to load or for some reason the user doesn't want them to load. Tagaziel (talk) 17:56, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

It's ready to go, I believe. Project time? Tagaziel (talk) 16:15, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Start drafting the project page, but give people another day of grace to voice their opinions if they still have them. --Kastera (talk) 22:23, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

The Project is up. We'll start one-by one, with Fallout. Tagaziel (talk) 15:16, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
