With Ghastly Scavenger, when you're in Sneak mode, you gain the option to eat a Super Mutant or Feral Ghoul corpse to regain Health. Every time you feed, you lose Karma, and if the act is witnessed, it is considered a crime against nature.— In-game description

Ghastly Scavenger is a perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

Effects[]

Taking this perk grants the ability to feed on the corpse of super mutants and feral ghouls to regain HP. Each corpse consumed grants +50 Hit Points, +5 Radiation, -1 Karma, and in Hardcore mode, -50 Starvation.

Interactions that require the Ghastly Scavenger perk[]

Notes[]

  • Ghastly Scavenger is unaffected by the Dine and Dash perk.
  • Since all of the characters that must be eaten in order to obtain the Meat of Champions perk are humans, which already requires the Cannibal perk, this perk's usefulness is largely for roleplaying benefit, particularly since there are few locations in the Mojave with feral ghouls and even fewer, i.e. Black Mountain and possibly Jacobstown, with enough hostile super mutants to justify needing to feed on them for health.

Behind the scenes[]

This perk was created by Joshua Sawyer.[Non-game 1]

The Courier: "[Ghastly Scavenger] Ghouls and Super Mutants sometimes taste like Brahmin steaks."
Jas Wilkins: "You're just pulling my leg, right? Why would anyone... uh... never mind. Anyway... I've got this recipe for a Deathclaw Omelet that I've been itching to try out. Trouble is - I need a Deathclaw egg. Kinda obvious, I suppose."

Anonymous: "Who came up with the Meat of Champions, Dine and Dash, and Ghastly Scavenger perks? I thought the cannibalism options complemented hardcore mode survivalism well. Being rewarded for consuming the leader of every significant faction was really satisfying."
Joshua Sawyer: "Jason Bergman came up with Meat of Champions. I came up with Dine and Dash and Ghastly Scavenger."
