Lumberjack Protectron does not want to lose lumberjack job to cheap human labor.Lumberjack Protectron

Gilman lumber mill is a location in the Forest region of Appalachia in Fallout 76.

With the Expeditions: Atlantic City update Boardwalk Paradise, this location was revamped and redecorated as an outpost for the Responders. It is led by Lane Platte and features several generic Responder characters, as well as quartermaster June Seaver.

Background[]

One of several lumber mills working the bountiful forests of Appalachia, Gilman was notable for heavily investing in a robotic workforce, steadily eliminating human lumberjacks in favor of robotic ones, custom tracked Protectrons.[1][Non-game 1]

In 2105, the reformed Responders claimed the lumber mill as an outpost. The outpost leader, Lane Platte, states that their goal is to provide a stable, neutral presence that can help stave off conflict between other groups inhabiting the region, such as the Settlers and the Crater Raiders.[2]

Layout[]

The layout of the lumber mill is a large fenced-off rectangular area. Inside this area are a half-destroyed main building, wood scraps, and a warehouse to the east, separated by a broken fence. To the west and east of this area are sections of active forestry with several harvestable log piles, while a small pond can be found north outside the fence. C.A.M.P.s could previously be placed anywhere in this area, but now cannot be placed within a radius of the central fenced-off area. Gilman lumberjack Protectrons can be found roaming around outside the buildings. Speaking to them occasionally will result in the robots providing some additional wood scraps to the Vault Dwellers to use with their C.A.M.P.s, especially useful if fresh out of Vault 76 after completing Reclamation Day. There will also be a couple of spots nearby where a wood extractor can be placed via a C.A.M.P. to have a healthy supply of wood for building the C.A.M.P. up in the early parts of exploring Appalachia.

The central area of the lumber mill has been inhabited by the Responders, who have set up an outpost with limited trading capabilities. From the main entrance of the mill along the southern interstate, several Responders logos and posters can be seen on the building's south wall. The ground level poster is interactable and has a message advertizing the Whitespring Resort. Much of the building is destroyed, missing a west wall and part of the roof. The southern end of the main building has an armor workbench, a stash box, and a usable hospital bed in a medical section. Lane Platte stands around the southeast corner, where a punch card machine, a weapons workbench, and another interactable Whitespring poster can also be found. June Seaver, a merchant, is in the northeast corner, with an ammunition vending machine and a medical supplies vending machine north of where she stands. The northernmost part of the building is hidden behind a large machine, and is also largely exposed to the outdoors. A power armor station and a tinker's workbench can be found here, while a cooking station is slightly north in the yard outside.

The warehouse is filled with logs (and small harvestable log piles) but otherwise has no notable contents.
