Freeside was built up around the intersection of Fremont Street and Las Vegas Boulevard. The influx of destitute travelers in recent months has created problems for its local residents.Fallout: New Vegas loading screen

The Freeside NCR Squatters Incident refers to a period of tensions between the Kings, along with the locals, and squatters forced to dwell in the area as a result of the New California Republic's campaign in the Mojave.

Prelude

There are two types of folk inside Freeside; those that have lived here all their lives (Locals), and those who came in with the NCR (Squatters). Each blame the other for problems.Rotface

The Kings were formerly a group of tribals before Mr.House became active. After, they became the largest gang in Freeside. Many of the members are admitted xenophobes; they published a smear campaign against the NCR and were known to harass and bully NCR civilians. When the NCR arrived in 2281, they brought with them several squatters who settled in Freeside. This drew the ire of the Kings, who saw Freeside as their turf.

Struggle

When the NCR arrived in the Mojave, they offered aid to the poor and misfortunate citizens of Freeside, sending an ambassador to start talks. However, Pacer, a xenophobic and thuggish member of the Kings, beat the diplomat within an inch of his life and sent him back. This resulted in public support for the relief campaign decreasing.

With the public support decreased, the relief effort's funds were significantly cut. This forced the NCR workers there to only hand out food to NCR squatters and not to the locals, though the officer in charge, Major Elizabeth Kieran, was known to make exceptions if said locals were friendly with NCR civilians. The Kings shunned the squatters in the area, bullied them repeatedly, and charged them double for water. The King Pacer also led an ill-fated attack against an NCR outpost in Freeside that resulted in the gang he brought with him being easily slaughtered by the NCR troopers who were there for security.

Tensions flared up again when the Kings started causing trouble by attacking NCR civilians around Freeside. The King was fully aware of this, but refused to stop it without first getting something from the NCR. The NCR responded, though what happened afterwards is dependent on the Courier's actions.
