Holden McMerrick was a member of the Honorary Mock-Naval Yachting Society staying at the Pleasant Valley Ski Resort at the time of the Great War.

In the aftermath of the Great War, Holden was critical of the decisions made by fellow survivors at the ski resort. He suggested establishing large groups to look for supplies, instead of locking away valuables and waiting for a government rescue that would never come.[1]
