There's no such thing as too many pumpkins!

Jack O' Lantern is a Mister Handy operating as caretaker of the Pumpkin House in Appalachia.[1]

Background[]

According to the pumpkin carving automation notes found inside the Pumpkin House, several robots were re-programmed by the proprietors to carve jack o' lanterns for Halloween. The Mister Handy designated as the greeter was given the name "Jack O' Lantern." Even long after the Great War, Jack continues to maintain the property due to a Priority 0, designating his task and mandate as: Gather pumpkins and prepare for the festival."[2]

Other interactions[]

First time visiting the Pumpkin House, speaking with Jack has him ask to find him some pumpkins to carve, triggering the daily quest Trick or Treat. Returning with the aforementioned pumpkins results in Jack giving the player character three pumpkin grenades and 10 packages of radioactive pumpkin seeds, used to make more via a tinker's workbench, along with the recipe/crafting plans for making pumpkin grenades. Whenever the miscellaneous objective to visit Jack at the Pumpkin House appears, the quest can be done again for more seeds to make more pumpkin grenades.

Behind the scenes[]

The name "Jack O' Lantern" has a rather rich history. According to an Irish myth, there was once a man named Stingy Jack, whom tricked the devil into not claiming his soul but was forsaken by God and forbidden entry into heaven. Due to this, Jack's soul was given a burning coal by the devil to light his way, which he apparently put inside a carved out turnip, and has been wandering the earth ever since. As the tradition goes, the Irish would carve out vegetables and put a piece of coal or something of the like inside to scare off Jack's spirit. When some Irish immigrated to America, they found pumpkins, which they believed to be a perfect vegetable for their tradition.
