Col. George Kemp was a military liaison working with Cambridge Polymer Labs, LLC in 2077.

Background[]

In 2073, Kemp took notice of the polymer research conducted by Jon Elwood, Ericka Woolum, and Wilfred Bergman at the Commonwealth Institute of Technology. This led to the team being given military funding via the Defense Experimental Research Project Initiative, leading to the establishment of Cambridge Polymer Labs, LLC the following year, and Kemp was made its liaison.[1]

The company's last military contract before the war was the Nucleostrictive Lining Project, aiming to create a new smart material for power armor that could convert ionizing radiation into electrical energy to recharge the suits in action.[2] Kemp oversaw the project's progress, but numerous setbacks from the researchers pushed the project far behind schedule and earned his ire with every report of failure. One particular flaw, which made the material unusable in combat scenarios, even caused him to threaten to pull the lab's funding if they could not produce actual results.[3]

Kemp's anger in each conversation with the project leads was all but expected, so it was immediately unusual when he called Jon Elwood on the morning of October 23, 2077 in a state of perfect calm. The colonel, well aware of the incoming nuclear warheads, requested that Elwood keep his team working in the lab until the project was completed.[4] Elwood soon realized that it was a warning. Although Cambridge received a direct nuclear hit, the laboratory building was spared the nuclear devastation. The research team survived thanks to their presence in the building, and Elwood attempted to follow Kemp's directions, lying that everything was alright and keeping the team unaware and at work. Meanwhile, he informed his wife Ericka of the truth and attempted to contact Kemp. He did not reach Kemp, but he did manage to gain confirmation that the military could escort them to safety if and only if they successfully finished the project.[5]

At an unknown time before the War, Kemp was informed by an unnamed sergeant that a group of drunken soldiers had stolen one of the army's tanks and took it for a joyride. Enraged by this revelation, he hastily wrote a letter and sent it to the soldiers reprimanding them for their behavior, and ordered them to return to the base with the tank or face punishment for insubordination.[6]

Appearances[]

George Kemp is mentioned only in Fallout 4.

  1. Molly: "The genesis of Cambridge Polymer Labs lies in the research of a group brilliant graduate students. Jon Elwood, Ericka Woolum, and Wilfred Bergman met during their time together at CIT. This slide shows them at their graduation. Their research into nucleostrictive and piezoelectric polymers caught the attention of Col. George Kemp in the fall of 2073. In the spring of 2074 the company was founded, with a generous grant provided by the Defense Experimental Research Project Initiative. The research produced here has resulted in several of components used in the Liberty Prime project that led to the successful defense of Anchorage. The company enjoys a strong relationship with the military and welcomes your addition to the research team that helps build a better America."
