Mad Johnny Wes is a heavily armed, hostile wastelander and the only human occupant of Hubris Comics in 2277.

Background[]

Johnny was trapped inside Hubris Comics due to the nearby presence of a super mutant group in the Mason District. He was almost killed by an onslaught of feral ghouls inside the building but has managed to defend himself by utilizing a minigun as well as automated turrets and improvised traps, coordinating the effort from a fortified foreman's office that he has nicknamed "the Alamo." However, the difficult situation has put a strain on Johnny and caused him to lose his mind, turning him hostile towards any wastelanders who approach his position.[Non-game 1]

Notes[]

  • Mad Johnny Wes is one of a handful of "boss" characters with abnormally high health for a human non-player character. He also has a high Perception of 10, allowing him to spot enemies easily. He is positioned on a balcony, guarded by two automatic turrets that put the Lone Wanderer under heavy fire while they are attacking him.
  • Like Arkansas in Minefield, Wes is scripted to fire at and attempt to detonate any explosive objects the player character gets close to, even if he has not actually detected them yet.
  • Johnny is the only named non-player character in the base game carrying darts.

Appearances[]

Mad Johnny Wes appears only in Fallout 3.

Behind the scenes[]

Mad Johnny is a nod to Wes Johnson, a prominent voice actor in Bethesda games, who also voices Mister Burke.

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.83: "Mad Johnny Wes:
Johnny Wes was hemmed in by a Super Mutant camp, and almost savaged to death by a relentless Ghoul onslaught. His mind snapped, reverting to its most basic instinct. He's holed up in the most defensible location of Hubris Comics (a foreman's office he's dubbed 'the Alamo'), and rigged the entire building with traps. They'll never take him alive. Never!"
