My God, I am sorry for all my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You whom I should...

S. Marcella J.[1] is a studious nomadic Christian missionary[2] who inhabits Point Lookout in 2277.

Background[]

She was raised at the Abbey of the Road, where she was educated until she received her Right of Mission.[3] As a nomadic Christian missionary, she travels the wastes and spreads the word of the Lord, doing good where she can.[4] As a secondary goal of her mission, she also recovers lost religious relics.[5]

She first traveled east from the Abbey to the Commonwealth where she took shelter with a caravan during a windstorm. There, she heard more worrying tales of the Pitt.[6] After she had done what good she could in the Commonwealth, she decided to flee before it "caught up" with her and bartered passage on a boat headed south.[7] Eventually, she arrived in the Capital Wasteland. She traded in Rivet City and broke bread with Father Clifford before taking the Duchess Gambit south into Point Lookout.[8][Non-game 1]

She restored and settled at the nearby disaster relief outpost.[9] Taking the tribal cultists and local inbreds for lost causes, she ministers to those she can.[10][11][12] She was immediately suspicious of Obadiah upon meeting him and has made a mission of investigating Blackhall's connection to the heathen creed of the Swampfolk.[Non-game 1][13]

Quests[]

Effects of player's actions[]

  • After the Lone Wanderer finds the Krivbeknih, she will be found dead inside the tent (she was killed by a trio of smugglers for unknown reasons, although it is implied that Obadiah Blackhall hired them as mercenaries to kill her, as she was chasing after his book).[14]

Other interactions[]

  • She can recite Bible passages when asked and makes frequent references to the Christian text.

Inventory[]

Apparel Weapon Other items On death

Notes[]

  • If the player character talks to Marcella about her religion, she will mention the Bible. The Lone Wanderer can then remark that Revelation 21:6 was their mother's favorite passage and even choose to say how cautious they are of cults.
  • She can recite verses from the New Testament when asked. The verses she recites are John 1:4-5, John 5:24, John 16:33, and 1 Corinthians 15:52.

Notable quotes[]

  • "People have clung to many beliefs since the Great War, and some have their foundations in the Faith. The Bible was around long before the bombs fell, as was my Faith. To us, the War was a great tragedy, but not the True Apocalypse."
  • "Obadiah's a good man, but his family has an evil past. This book is an unwanted heirloom, and the foundation of the heathen Krvibi ritualists."
  • "Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus."
  • "My God, I am sorry for all my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against You whom I should..."

Marcella appears only in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout.

  3. The Lone Wanderer: "How did you become a missionary?"
Marcella: "I was raised at the Abbey of the Road where I was educated until I could receive my Rites of Mission. That's when I first left the Abbey."
    (Marcella's dialogue)
  4. The Lone Wanderer: "You said you're not from around here?"
Marcella: "I come from the Abbey of the Road. I'm what you might call a missionary. I travel the Wastes, spreading the Faith and doing good where I can."
    (Marcella's dialogue)
  5. The Lone Wanderer: "What exactly is your mission?"
Marcella: "We try to improve the state of the Wasteland by doing good where we can and by spreading the word of the Bible. We also recover and restore religious relics that we can find, but that's a secondary goal."

  9. The Lone Wanderer: "Did you set this campsite up?"
Marcella: "Sort of - the tents were collapsed when I found them. I was able to put them back together. This one smells the least like a wet Brahmin. I restored a terminal in one of the other tents. From that it would seem these tents were originally put here before the War by medical workers. I come from the Abbey of the Road. I'm what you might call a missionary. I travel the Wastes, spreading the Faith and doing good where I can."
    (Marcella's dialogue)
  10. The Lone Wanderer: "Shouldn't you be at the Cathedral with the Tribals?"
Marcella: "That's an ironic choice of words, actually. That Cathedral was once a sanctuary of the Faith, true. Those who inhabit it now, however, are not of the Faith and won't suffer my presence. So no, child - that Cathedral is no place for me."
    (Marcella's dialogue)
  11. The Lone Wanderer: "What do you think of the locals?"
Marcella: "Hostile, in a word. I try to observe, but the swampfolk are dangerously aggressive to any outsiders. Lucky for us, they tend to keep to the swamp."
