"Maybe" is a 1940 song by The Ink Spots.
It can be heard playing during the intro and credits of Fallout, as well as on Galaxy News Radio in Fallout 3, Diamond City Radio in Fallout 4, and Appalachia Radio in Fallout 76. It can also be heard in the third episode of the Fallout TV series, "The Head".

Black Isle Studios intended to use "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" (later licensed by Bethesda Softworks for Fallout 3 as a song on Galaxy News Radio) by The Ink Spots for Fallout's theme song. The Ink Spots were chosen because they captured a 40s and 50s sound and were also the favorite band of Tim Cain's grandfather. However, Interplay could not license the song because of negotiation issues; EMI (the license holder) responded very slowly and also asked for a large amount of money. Instead of waiting for a reply to reduce the cost, the team quickly went through the back catalogue of music and chose "Maybe" instead. Tim Cain felt this fit the tone of Fallout much better, especially in regard to the ending, as the song's lyrics are about someone wondering if another will miss them when they are not around anymore.[1]
The song was recorded for the Decca Records label on June 11, 1940, and was released that same year.
The New York session personnel included Charles Fuqua (tenor vocals/guitar), Bill Kenny (tenor vocals/cymbal), Ivory Watson (baritone vocals/guitar), Orville Jones (baritone vocals/bass).[2]
