Your regenerative ability has been enhanced by the PHOENIX Monocyte Breeder implant, causing you to slowly regenerate lost hit points.— In-game description

The PHOENIX Monocyte Breeder is an implant perk in Fallout: New Vegas.

Background[]

Main article: Phoenix implants

Another variant of the Phoenix implant series, which speeds up cell regeneration by breeding monocytes (a type of white blood cell responsible for destroying pathogens and tissue repair) in a manner similar to lizards and sea creatures. This is the most expensive implant available at the New Vegas medical clinic.[1] The "mild regenerative effect" closes wounds rapidly.[2]

Requirements[]

The implant must be bought from Doctor Usanagi in the New Vegas medical clinic for 12,000 caps.

Effects[]

Gaining this perk grants a passive source of HP regeneration at a rate of 1 point every 10 seconds.

Notes[]

  • As with all of Usanagi's implants, if one has already purchased a number of other implants equivalent to the player character's Endurance attribute level, this implant cannot be purchased unless Endurance is raised one additional level, e.g. by taking one rank of Intense Training or gaining one of the four ending perks in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road.
  • In Hardcore Mode, sleeping on an unowned bed (or did not rent) does not heal the player character, and thus consumables are the only source of healing; with this perk sleeping and waiting will heal based on the equivalent in real-world seconds to the in-game time passed. Fast-traveling will also heal the player character for the estimated amount of game-time that the player character travels through. Therefore, the healing rate is almost instantaneous, save for the loading sequences between each fast-travel.
  • Since the perk's healing rate takes so long to fully restore the player character's HP, it is only valuable outside of battle.
  • The implant's effect is very useful during the Dead Money add-on because of the short supply of stimpaks. In Hardcore mode, it partially counteracts the slow health drain that the Cloud inflicts.
  • Waiting 1 in-game hour will restore 12 HP.
  • Limb damage is not healed by the regeneration; these must still be healed by normal means.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Monocytes are a form of white blood cell (leukocytes) which react to inflammation signals and differentiate into infection-fighting cells to protect the body from disease.
  • The implant's name PHOENIX is similar to Phoenix implants in Fallout 2.

  1. The Courier: "I'd like the regenerating ability."
Usanagi: "That's the PHOENIX Monocyte Breeder. The implant speeds up cell regeneration, an effect similar to that of some lizards and sea creatures. The implant is very expensive, however - 12,000 caps."
    (Usanagi's dialogue)
  2. The Courier: "What kind of implants do you have available?"
Usanagi: "I have several basic implants available that can enhance your physical abilities - make you faster, smarter, stronger, that sort of thing. I've also got two much more expensive implants. One's a sub-dermal implant that will make you more resistant to damage. The other implant induces a mild regenerative effect. Your wounds will practically heal before your eyes."
