I'm going to make you a proposition so spectacular, you can't possibly say no. You ready?

Parker Quinn is a con man operating near the South Boston Police Department in 2287.

Background[]

The con artist Parker Quinn is known somewhat around the Commonwealth for his charge card scam.[1] He conducts his operations in an alleyway near the South Boston police precinct, hoping to shake down passing travelers willing to buy his charge card. Quinn claims that he is working with local shops and merchants to introduce a system of credit as a substitute for paying upfront with bottlecaps. He offers the charge card to anyone willing to pay the initial price of 100 caps, plus a 10 cap service fee, stating it is good for use at any vendor in the area, but of course, it is only a scam, as no merchant will accept the card as valid payment. The sole exception of this is Brooks in Far Harbor who is familiar with it and cashes it out for 100 caps.[2]

Interactions with the player character[]

Other interactions[]

  • The first interaction with Parker Quinn is a typical salesman back and forth of asking various questions and offering shallow flattery to get to his pitch of selling his charge card. He offers it at 110 caps. Regardless of the Sole Survivor's response to the scam, Parker will end the conversation by calling them a "retard" under his breath.
    • After buying his charge card, the player character may pickpocket or kill him to get their money back.
    • However, the charge card can be sold to Brooks in Far Harbor for 100 caps.

Effects of player's actions[]

  • Similar to the Pillars of the Community, killing Parker does not count as murder, a trait shared by other grifters in the Commonwealth. Thus no companions will react negatively to doing so.

Dialogue reactions[]

  • Various vendors across the Commonwealth react to the charge card negatively.
  • On approaching Sheng Kawolski in Diamond City after having bought the charge card, he will say that Parker has "got another one," and tell the Sole Survivor that they might as well dispose of the card since no trader in the Commonwealth will accept it.

Notes[]

  • His character file seems to have been copied from Ron Staples', including the typo where his special vendor container checks to see if he has been assigned to a trading emporium. As a result, if brought into a settlement using console commands or tier 3 Intimidation, he has options to be commanded or moved as a settler, and when assigned to a trading emporium will sell rare food items.
    • In order to use him as a settler, the player character first needs to open the settlement menu and move him to the settlement before assigning him as a vendor or he would walk away (like how a settler is moved from settlement A to B).
  • The player character is unable to dismember Parker Quinn.

Notable quotes[]

  • "What? What did you call me? You calling me a thief? Do you know who I am? Do you have any idea who I am or who I know?" – Parker after being called a thief
  • "Retard." – Parker insulting the Sole Survivor
  • "Ok then! Fuck you very much!" - Walking/running away from him as he is trying to initiate conversation with you.

Appearances[]

Parker Quinn appears only in Fallout 4.

Behind the scenes[]

Parker is voiced by and physically resembles Emil Pagliarulo, the lead designer of Fallout 4. Parker was made by Pagliarulo during an internal game jam and the character found his way into the final game. According to Pagliarulo, he "wanted to create a version of some of the guys [he] knew growing up" and wrote dialogue specifically to accentuate Parker's Boston accent.[Non-game 1]

References[]

  1. The Sole Survivor: "Do you take this charge card?"
Sheng Kawolski: "A what now? OH... Oh no way! Parker Quinn got another one. I can't believe it. That old shark. Listen, ain't no one from here to the Quincy Bay gonna accept that useless hunk of plastic. You're better off tossin' it."
    (Sheng Kawolski's dialogue)
  2. The Sole Survivor: "Hey, this is a long shot, but... do you accept this charge card?"
Brooks: "Huh? Oh yeah, that thing. Sure do. It'll be easier if I just cash you out. Looks like... what? 100 caps? Here you go."
