Caption image of the year

Agent, I'm thinking we could introduce a caption of the year contest. Nothing complicated, just a bit of easy fun. You started it in July this year and we now have about 22 images. There are some possibilities. We could make it 2 semifinals in your wiki news digest, with 11 images each and then a final with 8 or so in these final 3 weeks of the year. Or make it simpler, just one week, end of this month and you select the 8 with the most votes to compete against each other in digest of 28th of December. How's that sound? Twitch

Thanks for offering the service, but I really can't see Fallout Answers using it in the immediate or even the near future. Fallout Answers hasn't been remotely active for several months; we haven't even had a new question for at least 30 days, it's likely longer than that but the wiki activity feed only goes back a month :/. Lion Poster

Patroller Rights

Hey Chad, How's D.C.? I hope it's good. :) Anyway's...On to business. I am applying for Patroller Rights. I feel like I am ready to take on the responsibility of the rollback tool and keep my watchful eye on Nukapedia for vandals and spam. As you know, I have been working hard these last few weeks since re-joining Wikia to get back to my pre-absence state. This has not come with it's downfalls but I haven;t given up and will not give up. I have been here for well over a month, I have passed over the 350 edit limit with a total of 707 article edits, and I have not been site blocked or banned at all since being back. Anyways, I hope this is enough for me to become a Patroller and start helping out a little more each day.

Amends

As you know, we have spoken in chat - but I will reply here with a shorter version for transparency reasons.

I don't care for petty feuds. I don't like that I have to question who's really my friend here anymore. And when all of the sudden this stuff comes up, when I am called a liar and my integrity, which I have worked hard at maintaining, is questioned, I do take a defense against it. However, I am here for the information, and I have no wish to hold grudges or keep fights alive longer than they have to.

As long as the private messages and the accusations drop, I am perfectly willing to let this drop, as well. But, like I said over Skype, what Mel did was inexcusable. I will trust that you had no part in what she said, but I will no longer tolerate her behaviour. If she ever takes that behaviour to Nukapedia, something will be done about it.

Now, with this unpleasantness aside, I am perfectly willing and capable to keep a professional relationship with you to help better this wiki, and in the end, I do hope we can at least be civil, should we ever decide not to be friends. Dialogue files progress

I've created 9 FNV dialogue export files, for the characters with the most lines. When they are created, they get a name DialogueExport<name character>.txt. I suggest we leave the DialogueExport out for the name we're gonna use. You can see the results and naming in Category:Fallout: New Vegas dialogue files. Theo asked me a complete export so that's what I did. He then uses his bot with this as result, for Caesar. I've done extensive research on which columns we need and come up with User:Jspoelstra/sandbox1. It's similar to what TV has. I'm going to ask Theo to put these 9 files into tables and see how it looks. Possibly one column can be removed and one merged, first I'd like to see how things look. Them new templates

OK. After a quick look at all them new template, I redid the update template to use the Mbox meta as a base. All the other inline templates look OK as they are, but they're redlinking all the cats. We'll have to create those cats and categorize those cats in the category tree. Other than that, they look OK now. Not sure why Leon added all those template link templates, but I'm assuming they are used on the template docs for those new templates. Post-Apocalyptic News Article

Hey Chad. I just read quite the interesting article from IGN (insert IGN hate here) that talks about the post apocalyptic genre, mainly it in former eastern bloc countries and the impact of games such as STALKER and Metro. Quite the interesting read and some good words from the developers. Might be worth reading through and putting some highlights in a new digest. Up to you of course. Chat bot

The chat bot is back up. As a related note to that, I do want to mention that I'd seen a number of people using the chat logs in a way I never intended them, and in a way I will never support. That is using them to essentially spy on what's said in chat. There was even someone off wiki who was spying in on chat by using them. When I created that tool, it was with the intent that it would help us moderate chat and give us a tool to easily provide logs when our moderators need to act on the rules. I was clear that it was not intended as a tool to go through the logs and retroactively sanction users when mods weren't active. I also refuse to see it used to spy on chat. If this continues, I will either change the way it logs so it writes the logs offsite (which I now have the capability to do), or I will simply cease using it. On the previous removals, yes. But for this one, I've found a justification and it's been resolved. Bleep's proposed that I run any possible bugs by him before I remove them. Source for the Enclave image

The image, known as "Enclave_Symbol_(Fallout_3).png" (Without quotations, of course), was the original version of the Enclave's emblem on the Enclave article and was the main image for the article as well, until December 3, 2013 at 16:06, when it was replaced by the image "Enclave_Symbol_(FO3).png" as a result of Eden2012's edit. The original image, that is the "(Fallout_3)" version, not the "(FO3)", appears on the articles Enclave Radio, Enclave Remnants, 120 User pages, and Dead Gunner's forum post asking for moderators to have the right to kick people from chat (Appears in the form of a user signature), making for a total of 123 separate pages with the image.

I will admit, the "(FO3)" variant appears in more articles than the other one, but that's only due to the new one being used in the "Navbox Enclave" window on those articles. I don't consider that usage as being a true part of the article, seeing how the image does not make an appearance in the main parts of the article (Gallery, infobox, etc.).

The main reason I'm attempting to keep the "(Fallout_3)" version on the Enclave article is to keep consistency between articles prominently displaying the Enclave emblem on main parts of their pages. Other than that and a few minor reasons, I think the previous version looks better, sporting a 3D design compared to the flat, 2D look of the new one.

However, I realize that you simply asked for the source of the image I'm using, and I made my response far more than that, and I apologize. All you really need to regard is the first paragraph.

P.S: I accidentally created a variant of the original image, except it only has a 200 x 200 pixel resolution. The file's called "200px-Enclave_Symbol_(Fallout_3).png". It's used in 2 user pages (My own included), and also, in a case I find quite ironic given the circumstances, one of Eden2012's own blog entries.

Editing

I edited the Armor of 87th tribe page, but when it was published, a bunch of red text came up about "unrecognized punctuation marks." I can see through the "recent changes" tab that the text is intact, but the red "punctuation marks" words and codes are still there. Did I do something wrong? I'd rather see it mentioned now. We've encountered some problems with the Fallout 3 dialogues, so that may still take a while. Patroller Request

Hello, Chad. I wanted to hereby formally request patroller rights, as I have met the requirements for them, and have contributed in projects which you can see on my userpage, such as the charts project for both Gamebryo games. Furthermore, I have lately been working on removing speculation from pages such as this. In addition, I have been active on this Wiki both in chat and editing for almost three years, and have skills with the GECK which is uncommon. As you know already, I have never been site or chat banned. I believe that, assuming the New User Network picks back up, I could be great at helping people learn editing basics, and am here almost every day in chat or browsing the Wiki and can be easily contacted. Feature box fix

Victory!

I think I finally came up with a solution to those couple of issues with the feature box. First, I got it to stop adding those additional lines at the bottom, and secondly, I think I've got it so that the box automatically sizes properly for both images and text. After trying some fancy solutions, I finally tried something simple and stuck the image and content in a single cell table. Worked dandy. Take a look at User:The_Gunny/sandbox3 and see if you can spot any problems. I think I can make the changes to the template without having to change anything on the pages it's transposed to. Enclave pages

Due to how much of a mess the Enclave military strength page is, how vague it is, and how it hardly follows the MOS, as well as how Enclave coverage in general doesn't, I'm considering a complete overhaul of the military strength page, renaming it to "Military of the Enclave" (unless a proper source for "Enclave Armed Forces" is found), redesigning it, giving it better and more in-depth, readable coverage, and following the rest of the content layouts and creating separate articles for "Chemical Corps" and "Atomic Energy Commission", etc. What do you think?   OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  15:45, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

Our stance on the Fallout 2 restoration project

Chad, do you know some of our wiki stance and history on the Fallout 2 restoration project? Theo asked me here. It seems to me that very little of it is mentioned here and what is mentioned, is treated as cut content. Looks to me we see it as a mod and don't cover it. Forums

I've been thinking for a while about making a few changes to the forums. First, I'm not happy that when the forum archives were implemented that they were all grouped into one single archive, not an archive for each individual forum sub. That makes it hard as heck to search old forums. Also, some time ago, I figured out a way to make "pinned" forum threads, ones that will stay at the very top of the forum list. Since both of these use a simple change in the forum category the forum is in, and that forum category is added to the forum from the forum header template, I was thinking about changing the forum header template to add support for both these features. I can make the template add a forum to the "pinned" category, or to an "archived" category for each individual sub-forum, then create a forum list on each specific sub-forum to list these.

Making the changes to the forum header template to add the categories is no big deal. Making the changes to the individual forums themselves would require adding one parameter |archived or |pinned to each. That's there the sticky part is. Since all the archived forums were moved by placing the {{Archivedforum}} template on them, replacing the old forum header template, we'd have to go back through all of the old archived forums, figure out which forum they used to belong to, and change them back with the added |archived parameter.

The benefits of making these changes are:

• All old archived forums will be placed in the forum list at the bottom of each sub-forum that originally came from.
• All new forums that need to archived only need to have the parameter |archived added to the exisiting forum header template to archive them.
• We would be able to "pin" important forums to the top of the forum list in any given forum simply by adding the parameter |pinned to the existing forum header.

The downside?

• We'll have to go back through all the archived forums, figure out which forum they used to be in and change them back including the parameter |archived. We'll flood rc with edits on old forums, but this time, those edits won't "bump" the archived forums up on the forum list.

OK. I made the changes to the forum templates. Take a look at Forum:Wiki_proposals_and_applications and see if you like it. Pinned threads (when we have them) will always appear at the top of the forum list, and the link to the archive for that forum is at the bottom of the forum list. We'll create a separate forum for each archive (this will keep the old ones "hidden" a bit. All I have to do is create the other archive forums and the associated categories. All the changes to the forums, forum templates and new categories are done. We'll need to start moving the archived forums back to the proper categories. I will write up a forum on the DB with instructions so everyone knows how to do this correctly and hope to get some help. Be advised: there are some empty categories. Eventually, all the archived categories will be populated, but the "pinned" forum categories will not be until we "pin" some forums. Problems with Chrome

Hi there. My name's Patrick, and I'm an administrator on the Game of Thrones Wiki. We're currently experiencing some technical difficulties with our family tree templates (apparently caused by Google Chrome), which are causing them to not display properly. Strike team grenadier

Hey brah. It looks like i'm back!

I was surfing through the wiki and i found the Strike team page. I scrolled to see it and i realised that in the grenadier it only appeared "Strike team" and not "Strike team grenadier" like it should. When i tried to edit it, it showed that the grenadier part was there in the edit page, but when i published it, it remained the same. It is not a major problem, but i thought that you'd like to know it. Maybe it has something to do with these template problems mentioned above.

Fireburn

We know that User:Fireburn12 logged in on the same IP as User:TheSurvivor2299 and the IP resolves to the same locale. I have a screen shot of the check user log showing the log-ins for that IP. I'd be happy to email it to you, or upload a scrubbed version to the wiki for proof. IP check also shows that Fireburn had 2 other accounts that have either edited here, or joined chat: User:Ellie Williams, whom he had declared as an alternate account on that user page, and User:TheManWithAPlan21 whom he did not. Do we "know" it's him? We only know that the account Fireburn12 logged in on the same IP, from the same locale, as TheSurvivor2299. That is the threshold we have always used for multiple accounts, and the only tool available to us to determine persons using multiple accounts. As for technical knowledge, I'm not certain what technical knowledge one needs to create multiple accounts. None of the IPs seemed to me to be proxies or VPN IPs. I'd judge that Fireburn being able to create his own account proved the technical ability to create others. If I'm missing some other incident that shows advanced technical knowledge by TheSurvivor2299, please refresh my memory.

As for the violations of site policy, this is what I see:

1. Policy states that alternate accounts must be declared. Fireburn did declare one, but not the other two accounts associated with his IPs (he used multiple IPs to log on with. Over 20, I believe). Each instance of non-declaration is a violation of policy, so there are two violations of policy.
2. Abusing multiple accounts is defined as using alternate accounts to evade bans or blocks. TheSurvivor2299 was banned from chat for 3 days on 19Feb2014 and siteblocked (and concurrently chat-banned) for 1 month on 22Feb2014. Fireburn's edit log shows activity between 22Feb2014 and 22Mar2014 and chat log-ins on 20 and 21Feb2014, so he used that account to evade the ban/blocks on the Survivor2299 twice. Edit logs and check user do not show activity for Ellie Williams during those time frames.

My conclusion is that, unless there's some compelling evidence that explains how Fireburn12 and TheSurvivor2299 used the same IP, but were different people, the main account, Fireburn12, is responsible for all these violations. Normally, I would consider some leniency with the non-declarations, but considering the severity of the actions causing the blocks/bans to TheSurvivor2299, I am much less so. Also, take into account the odd fact that he used the alternate undeclared accounts to "converse" with himself, implying the were not related or the same person and I believe with the intent to deceive by impersonations others (a possible violation of Wikia's ToU). I believe the assumption of good faith has been made and the acts of these accounts proved bad faith. I support the indefinite block, considering all the evidence, unless there is some very compelling proof that Fireburn12 and TheSurvivor2299 are not, in fact, the same person. If it is proven somehow that they are not the same person, I would support a 1 week block for the two instances of violations of the secondary accounts policy.

I will post this finding on Fireburn's talk page, so he may be completely informed of all the evidence. I'm more than happy to answer any questions I've left unanswered. The Gunny   20:42, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

As a side-note to this, not declaring secondary accounts is not actually bannable offense as far as I can see. The rules applied to these cases only suggests, or in the words actually used in the guidelines, "...insists..." that they be declared. In our rules, it is never mentioned that not declaring them is a bannable offense, and it is never mentioned that declaring secondary accounts is mandatory. Not to mention that this rule is only found as a guideline, and not a policy. ^{Some Assembly Required!} 20:50, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

The checkIP log shows User:Fireburn logging in on 4Mar2014 on an IP the TheSurvivor2299 had used most recently on 17Feb2014. The service provider for that IP is not the same service provider that Fireburn usually logs in on. All the other IPs of Firburn's (or his other accounts) that I've checked resolve to one service provider. This is the only IP that resolves to the other service provider. That means that he either did not use the same device he usually uses, or he used a different network (keep in mind that the other IP resolves to a mobile carrier, not a land line carrier) to log in with his normal device. The gap in time *could* mean the IP rotated. The different IP and service provider *could* mean that he happened to use the same connection that TheSurvivor2299 used, but how is that connection a different mobile carrier? Hotspot? The other possibility is that the person behind both those accounts is him. What are the probabilities that he happened to live in the same area and latch onto the same exact IP or device as TheSurvivor2299? What are the probabilities that he's responsible for TheSurvivor2299 account and is lying to cover his tracks? Both are distinct possibilities.

The question here is: How do we use the tools given? In the past, we have always used the linkage of IPs/accounts to determine the linkage between usernames. If we do not use this method, what method do we use? Do we go back and unban all the folks who we've determined were socks using this method? We would be unbanning a lot of people who have done serious harm to the wiki if we did. If we stop using this method, what tool do we have to link people abusing multiple accounts? I know of no other. Wikia uses the same tool, and the same methods to determine multiple accounts resolving to the same IP. If we had no check user tool, and had to rely on Wikia, the result would have been the same: They would have told us the accounts are linked.

As far as the threat of anyone taking this to a forum, please keep in mind a few things: I did not contribute to his block. I simply checked the data to determine if the findings were consistent with our established application of the tools and policies. I found they were. We either use these tools, with whatever limitations they have, or we don't. I don't have to respond to the numerous requests for checks on IPs. If I don't, we risk allowing folks violating our policies to continue to break them with impunity. Frankly, I can't stand our multiple accounts declaration policy. I opposed it. But it's the damn rule they put in place, so I uphold it, the best I can, with the tools I have available. If folks want me to stop, I'd be happy to stop. I don't need to contribute here. I don't need to block these vandals. If I'm not here, I don't have to deal with people telling me my son should die. We make all these complicated vapid rules that are difficult to enforce. Then, when we try to enforce them the best we can, the people who supported them try to play rules lawyer on us. I don't mean to direct this invective at you, so take this as a general statement, please.

If Fireburn can come up with a reasonable reason why he logged in on a mobile IP different from his normal one, that overcomes the unlikelyhood that it just happened to be the same exact mobile IP used by TheSurvivor2299, I would support removing that violations pertaining to TheSurvivor2299's actions. He still has to deal with the lessor problems of creating other accounts and not declaring them. I'm not going to break Wikia's ToU and reveal any of his IPs, the service providers or the location those IPs resolve to. We were warned specifically about revealing personal information gained from the use of these tools. The Gunny   16:33, March 29, 2014 (UTC)

Hello. I haven't seen you around the Bethesda Fallout Forums. It has been slow so not to many people are there anymore.

Do you know anything about an interview from Emil Pagliarulo in which he says the "High-Level Events" of Fallout Tactics are canon. I have been having a hell of a time trying to find it. Does it exist or am I crazy? Why does this wiki say Emil Pagliarulo said that but doesn't have a source? Or does it :P

Blurry pictures

This seems to be a slam dunk to me. You all did seem to be kidding around a bit with south park references, the three of you told him to not bring SNM stuff over, he continued, Hail you told him that you weren't messing around, Fireburn you then asked "r u sur?" (sic) to which hail replied "yes" and you acknowledged that with a "mkay" and then "but first".

Fireburn, were also encouraging the use of admin tools with your "Go ahead" "Kick me MH", making me wonder if this was your intention all along - to provoke a ban and then get me to act.

Possible New Category?

I was wondering if it would be possible to start a new category for New Vegas, Fallout 3, and possibly Fallout 1 and 2. I'm not sure if you've received anything like this, but I'm requesting permission to create a category for each game that is devoted to some of the more major mods.

I know it has the potential to get out of hand, and I am aware of other possible issues that may arise. However, that is why I am requesting it for some of the more well-known mods, which includes some that restore functionality or other content back into their respective games, such as the FO2 restoration, which returns several encounters and items, like the Phaser. Some also allow players to resolve NPC issues without having to enter the console, then input the command, followed by the base ID of the NPC in question, which is something that several mods handle, an example being the Groovatron. Mods provide an added level of fun to these already amazing games, and they've even influenced the developers to add similar items into the base game itself or its add-ons, as is the case with Two-Bears-High-Fiving and Armor of the 87th Tribe. I'm not even sure if you're the right person to go to for this kind of thing, but all I'm asking for is something that Nukapedia could really benefit from. Pretty much this, only I think because there wasn't any money or likewise-valuables involved, that makes it irrelevant. Not that anyone wasn't threatened... over the internet, btw.

That's my logic behind my attitude on this whole thing, I have an incredibly hard time taking seriously anyone, not just Nukaturtle, anyone who is spending actual time with their actual lives, taking seriously the fact they're being 'blackmailed' through separate computer screens in completely different countries. That's the heart of it, quite honestly.

I apologize for lying, which I did do, and take full responsibility for, but when compared to the over-exaggerated nature of this entire thing by pretty much everyone anyway, I think I'm par for the course.

I won't press this shit any further though, because I feel petty right now just indulging this stuff, quite frankly. The ban is a curiosity to say the least, Chad. Proper policy wasn't followed (Leon wasn't warned or kicked). It is not a proper ban since there was no notification, and at the very least Garoux should have been expelled from chat, which didn't happen since it was a backdoor ban. The proper procedure was completely ignored, making the ban illegitimate. In this case, the benefit of the doubt goes with the user. I'm making the administrative decision to suspend the ban until the proper procedure is followed. Please do not undo my actions this time.

If you equate it to an edit war, they you're violating procedure as well by reverting me. The policy states: "1)Administrators are allowed to undo each other's administrative actions. 2)However, it is expected that the one who reverts an action explains the reason for the revert. 3)In addition, if the admin whose action was undone disagrees with the revert, they should contact the reverter and discuss instead of simply reverting the revert. If consensus cannot be reached, a third admin should be asked to mediate." I acted according to 1) and 2). You violated 3).

GB's Chat Ban

I am now being told I fabricated chat logs and made stuff up. I am simply gonna do this as I just pulled this out of the chat logs. Which is the exact thing I posted to show you what was going on. If no one believes me, fine, I don't care. I have no reason to fabricate logs nor the desire to see people worked up, but I will not by any means condone what I thought was harassment.

Not a problem, I'd be happy (for lack of a better word) to step in on this.
