Rusty Burton was a student attending Shaw High School in 2077.[1]
Background[]
Rusty was a "detention regular" involved in Principal Ronald Tanner's plan to secure a retirement fund by boosting the school's test scores in order to receive a larger school budget, which he was embezzling from. Rusty agreed to distribute Mentats to his fellow students in exchange for longer lunch breaks. Over the course of the year, Rusty also took the Mentats, which resulted in him becoming smarter.[2]
Suspicious of the principal's motives, Rusty snuck into his office, hacked into his terminal, and discovered the entire scheme, including that Tanner had kept the increased budget a secret. Rusty held a secret meeting with Tanner and confronted him with this information, while recording their conversation, in order to blackmail Tanner into giving him a fifty percent cut of his embezzlement.[2]
