The shoulder mounted machine gun (SMMG) is a weapon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road. This gun is similar to the minigun in a way that it is gatling style but it is a smaller version that is fired from the players shoulder, but has a somewhat of a lower RPM.
Characteristics
Essentially, the shoulder mounted machine gun is a 10mm minigun with a slower rate of fire, fired while the bulk of the weapon rests on the user's shoulder. Due to its high damage per shot and good rate of fire, it is easily the most effective 10mm weapon in the game. However, it can be difficult to maintain as only SMMGs can repair it even with Jury Rigging, and it is extremely expensive to repair unless you have a ready supply of weapon repair kits. Alternatively if you found the 1st rank of ED-E's upgrades, repairing this gun isn't a problem.
Modifications
- SMMG mechanical upgrade - Increases weapon condition by 25%.
- SMMG recoil compensator - Reduces spread by 0.2.
- SMMG extended magazine - increases maximum ammunition capacity by 15.
Locations
- On the body of the unique marked man Beast.
- In a Military Supply Crate south of Collapsed Overpass Entrance.
- In a Military Supply Crate at High Road Entrance.
- Carried by Marked Men near the end of Lonesome Road.
Notes
- The SMMG requires less strength than any other miniguns, making it a viable option for players with a low Strength who couldn't use miniguns from the main game.
Behind the scenes
- Seth McCaughey came up with the weapon concept and animations.[1]
Bugs
- It seems that they actually stack in your inventory with the more damaged weapon on top. (Needs confirmation)
Picking up one in lesser condition than the one in your inventory may replace the one you already had with the more damaged copy. An easy way to prevent losing the SMMG in better condition is to equip it before picking up the more damaged one. Keep it equipped until you give it to ED-E or use it for something else.
