Condition?

The binoculars appear to have a condition just like a weapon would, does the condition actually have an effect on them? 152.22.0.252 18:39, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

  • Presumably they can be broken by being shot, this is unlikely as players aren't likely to wander into combat with binoculars equipped. If binoculars had an attack, that would be weakened by the condition. It's sort of the same deal as with explosives, as a weapon it /must/ have a condition in order to avoid breaking the engine (probably), which has unintended consequences. 129.174.188.43 06:06, November 29, 2010 (UTC)

Bug

The bug described on the main page, where a blank hack screen appears when you press zoom, is not unique to the binoculars. It seems every time you look through a scope or attempt to pick a lock, it results in this screen once the bug is active. It occurred when I added a silencer to a varmint rifle already equipped with an extended mag and a night scope. So far the only fix I have found is to exit the game completely and re-enter. 68.40.182.34 00:43, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

Viewing Locations

is there any specific way you need to aim at a location in order to have the location uncovered. For example, I stood directly next to a location without dicovering it and surveyed it throught the binoculars, as well as pressed about every button on the controller. What must I do? 70.232.164.197 20:22, July 14, 2011 (UTC)

Same here. Seems like it's BS to me. Gary 42 13:41, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
  • Binoculars do not enable the player to discover a location from a distance. Their only use is to scan for enemies too far away to be perceived. Most weapons with scopes, especially guns like the Gobi Campaign scout rifle and Ratslayer are better.DarthOrc 06:24, August 28, 2011 (UTC)DarthOrc
Okay, then the page needs to be edited because it says that they do. Gary 42 22:57, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

Useless?

Is there any use for this item? I can scan enemies far away with v.a.t.s if I want and the binoculars do not zoom that much anyway.

You can see farther than VATS can key up in case you wanted to scan ahead. But these are redundant if you're carryig around most scoped rifles, since you can see and snipe. User:Great_MaraMessage 23:50, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

The only use binoculars have is to let you zoom in for a closer look at female characters' sexy bits. Aside from that they serve no purpose and aren't worth wasting your carrying capacity on them. --99.24.181.162 09:19, August 19, 2014 (UTC)

Bug

I usualy mod a lot on the PC version of F:NV, but it seems that after a while, I have these phantom ghost binoculars that, with Project Nevada, show up as throwing knives. I use the player.removeitem command to remove it, but once I go into the game again, they instantly respawn and plop themselves into my inventory. Please help. ;-;
