I think it is good the way it is. If you look up a quest you are most likely looking for help but we shouldn't give any lesser quests "how to's" until a few days after the game comes out. User:Specter02147

In retrospect, there are so many things wrong with my wording of "pre-release plot synopsis". It is ludicrous to expect that text designed to impart the plot not contain parts of the plot that the reader might not want to see yet, sorry :o) I meant the main article anyway, and I shouldn't have limited myself to saying pre-release either. Bleh. More sensibly, I suggested a format, with an example, and mentioned "similar things". However, I didn't make that perfectly clear. It didn't mean, this example, and "similar things" on the page, it meant, this example and "similar things" that might be added to the page. There are numerous examples of spoilers already on the page, that, in the end, I am not concerned with, as they contain inextricable information that is relevant to the subject of this page. For example, revealing that the player's physiognomy reflects /is reflected by the father's facial features gives away at least three things: the father goes missing, the player is sent to search for the father, and the player finds the father. But these facts are integral to not only a plot precis, but the list of gameplay elements. What I was really after was a consensus that information be added with an eye to removing unnecessary spoilers, and I personally would like additional spoiler messages to be inserted in the main text, so that the rest of the text can be read by someone wanting to avoid spoilers. VvAnarchangelvV 22:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I think maybe we should limit the spoilers on this general Fallout 3 page, but there's no point in limiting spoilers in e.g. the articles on quest - they all have spoiler warnings anyway and if someone looks up a quest, even a minor one, he's probably looking for a walkthrough anyway. Ausir 17:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for restoring this discussion. You're right about there being a spoiler warning. I didn't know of a quest page; I will get right on that. I will add my proposed change, as it removes no information helpful to completing the quest, or to starting it for that matter, and removes a spoiler as pursuant to the spirit of having a spoiler alert on the page. However, I will revise my edit to include, "in the town of Megaton", as it gives flavor and information. VvAnarchangelvV 22:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

List of clothing/ armor[]

Should we start a list yet or just wait for the game.

For now information like that would go in the FAQ page, when the game is released an apparel or armor page might be created. --voluntas 02:47, 29 July 2008

Achievements[]

Do you want someone to start a page for them? Several have been shown in the new videos.

New Layout[]

Just checking that there aren't any persuasive arguments against the new layout (moved Story and Settings to the top, and Gameplay below it). My reasoning follows.

  • I appreciate that Fallout news has been an epic saga, and that it was right for Development to be the opening section. As the game moves closer to release, it seems inevitable that this article will become more about the game that people are playing, rather than the making of the game.
  • All the other game wikis I have seen have a Story or Plot or somesuch section at the top. Just like the lead in a feature article, the story engages the attention of the reader. It is the content that consumers of RPGs favor.
  • Sure is a beautiful bit of scenery accompanying the Story section, eh? Nice for that to go right up front, if not center :o) VvAnarchangelvV 22:32, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
The new layout is simple, well organized, and much needed. Great work. --voluntas 04:26, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm having trouble reading the black text over the grayish/black background. The layout is great, but I think the color scheme may need work. -- (Middle Man 17:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC))

Negative tone[]

What's with the overtly negative tone and the assumption that a few people somehow speak for fallout fans as a whole? Please try and remain objective if you're going to host a wiki on this.

Dear 207.216.182.160

You have indicated two problems:
  1. overtly negative tone
  2. a few people somehow speak for fallout fans as a whole

ad 1 We (you and I) can discuss this problem here, if you accurately quote questionable parts of the text. I suspect the problem is probably "Reception" chapter containt, however you should very carfully explain what is false, wrong, unfair, illegal, unobjective etc, etc. (English is not my native language). As far as I can understant this part of the article, it is only third parties opinions description. Probably the autor of questionable chapter didn't trust some other third parties opinions (off course you can try to ask him why). We can try to divide facts (again, reception description have to be based on some opinions) and author's private opinions, if there are present any.

ad 2 Problem could be "Fallout fan"/"market target" definitions, so if you are interested I can create some article, especially useful for Bethesda PR division employees. As you know everybody is allowed to wright here, so rethoric question is why "silent majority" is not interested in creating the gamers' guide to the Fallout (that is the mission of this wiki; because question is described as rethoric I don't give you malicious answers).dotz 10:38, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I really cannot agree with the removal, on Jul 15, from the Reception section, of 2 positive views, while leaving one negative one. I had begun to think this 'negative' section in Discussion was unnecessary but this edit definitely appears to fall under that category. Am restoring, pending explanation. Anticipating discussion of total removal of Reception, I believe it is not certain yet that it will even be necessary after game release to remove that category.VvAnarchangelvV 10:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I removed the Reception section altogether, because I think it's not necessary at this point. There's no need to discuss the press reaction in detail aside from stating that "the reaction from the press was largely positive." (I forgot to add it) - the article used to devote too much space to the very first preview, which is not really needed after so many previews from various sources. Nor is it needed to devote a paragraph to how Bethesda is reassuring the fans that they're staying faithful to the originals, since that's pretty much the default thing any developer would do. The only notable thing there is Boyarsky's reacion, plus a sentence about concerns from fans and about press reaction. Note that I initially copied the Reception section from Wikipedia, where it has also been trimmed. Ausir 10:35, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Better now? I left only Boyarsky's reaction (notable as one of the original makers of Fallout), I don't think any of the others talked about Fallout 3 in public at all, one sentence about fan concerns and one sentence about positive reaction from the press. Ausir 10:54, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

The reaction of a contributor to Fallout 1 is indeed more notable than a comment by a contributor to Fallout 3 - on a Fallout 1 page. It would be ironic and worse to place Boyarsky's comment under the category of Bethesda in any case. I restored the version before I saw your comments here, but then, I really haven't been convinced that a restoration was a bad idea. This article is none too long. The more content the better at this point. The Bethesda comments are what you might expect from publicity interviews, but they balance the extreme Point of View of Boyarsky. Same for the somewhat banal account of the press releases. I really don't care much for either of them, but Boyarsky's comment -has- to be balanced, he was irresponsible to insert such an emotionally loaded metaphor into the Black Isle aftermath in the first place, and we should be responsible in considering how it is presented here. VvAnarchangelvV 12:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm still not convinced to your arguments. The reception section is for how the game is received externally, not how it is received by the people who work on it. And I don't see Boyarsky's POV as extreme - it's pretty understandable. But anyway, Bethesda's own opinions are irrelevant to the reception section. Ausir 12:23, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Whether or not Boyarsky's comments were appropriate is completely irrelevant. He said what he said. If any other past devs chose to comment in a more optimistic manner their views would be posted just the same. --Killzig 19:36, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I apologize for removing the information about the halted Australian release; that was not intentional. I agree that Bethesda's comments on the subject of their approach to the game, in a section called Reception, is not relevant. I could retitle it Press, and it would be, and that would solve the balance problem, but I have another proposition. Quotes and/or citations are needed to back up the assertion that the press was favorable to first person, and RT, and similarity to Oblivion. VvAnarchangelvV 21:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Maybe copy the "Marketing" section from the Wikipedia article? Ausir 21:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism[]

"The game will suck."

Oh c'mon! This is negative AND ridiculous! (141.5.11.5 14:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC))

It's removed, btw I would take care of this article because of vandalism... (217.235.69.237 20:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC))

The "Fallout 3 official site" external link doesn't link to the proper page. Please fix it

There are 3 ads for google "work from home" which are clearly vandalism, can someone please remove them?

Xbox or PS3 image?[]

I propose changing the image of the X-box cover, with the name of that company displayed prominently at the top of the image, with that of the PS3 version |Image=Fallout_3_PlayStation_3.jpg , upon which the name of the company is more subtly displayed, along the left side. This image, more appropriate in that the subject of the article is Fallout 3 and neither PS3 nor XBox, can be seen on the wiki version for 8th of April at http://fallout.fandom.com/index.php?title=Fallout_3&oldid=26414 . For the record, I own neither an X-Box nor a Playstation 3; I am a PC user. The comment upon reversion of the PS3 image to the X-Box one was "Fanboys are asked to go away". However pointed, or possibly witty this comment, it is neither relevant nor acceptable discourse for a wiki, and most importantly, no argument at all in favor of reversion. Perhaps, to maintain the most scrupulous lack of bias, an image of the Collector's Edition for XBox and the Survival Edition for PC might be used at those sections, or vice versa. Changes Sat 5th July

  • Gameplay: unnecessary spoilers removed
  • Only the ESRB can determine the rating; hence the game 'is targetted' to be M.
  • Depravity is an excessively strong term and displays a strong Point of View, although it is possible that none such was intended.
  • Reception: somewhat confused; the point that a leak is not a press release is not necessary to make, hence it is only mentioned that it was a leak, and mentioned separately from legitimate press releases. Game Informer can not have been first to make a press release, as its leak was not one. Its leak is mentioned first, in chronological order.
  • Gore level was customizable in Fallout 2
  • Changes: more succinct, repetition of Stealth-, Combat-, and Charisma-Boy removed. potential bias removed

A wise man may differentiate between the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the cancellation of previous Fallout projects and the considerably distinct fortune of Bethesda in obtaining the rights to Fallout 3. There has been a certain quality in their products that belongs to no other, and I expect the same. There has been a great deal of vandalism to this page; further of the same will be reported with all speed and the harshest penalties recommended. VvAnarchangelvV 04:27, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Both covers are just as valid, and I don't see a need to change it to either, and I'm not a console gamer too. And X360 is the primary development platform of Fallout 3, on which all their press demos were shown, so it does make sense. The PS3 cover can be added to some other section of the article. Ausir 10:48, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

There is some irony in me worrying about product placement, seeing as this is a product we are discussing. But that is how it felt to me. However, your point about the development platform is a defining one.VvAnarchangelvV 22:32, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Is there not a PC cover or box since this did orginally arrive on a win95 computer?--ZasZ 23:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Arafu[]

Do you think we should list it in the settlements list or no.

The correct spelling is actually Arefu. Ausir 13:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

oops, sorry

No problem, it was misspelt in some previews, but is spelt "Arefu" on the map. I added it to the list of settlements. Ausir 13:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Combat and VATS[]

Is the section about Combat more than just wishfull thinking? According to a german game magazine enemies will practically always hit you while in VATS mode, because you are standing still. In the action mode, I fear that just like Oblivion, your characters abilities and weapon skills don´t really matter.

They have stated in a video awhile back, that during VATS mode you will get hit, but the damage is lowered so that the risk of you dying in VATS mode is reduced.
When NOT in VATS mode if you have a sniper rifle and zoom in on a raider's head and virtually no skills invested in small guns, than you WILL miss. They still use the skills as a basis for your actions. -- (Middle Man 16:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC))

Reception[]

Just suprised by the "reaction", as it is not consistent with the press coverage in all countries. in france Joystick (main game magasine) and canard PC (main independant game magasine) both stated basically best ever bethesda game, very good game, worst Fallout ever. one of the testers actually wrote that he envied persons who never played fallout before as they would find the game great, but all those who likes the series can only find it a bad fallout due to the the scenario (and a few discrepancies / mistakes in the world, but it is not what they insist on). with some time to see it, this opinion seems to be in lmine with most players (new and old ones). Maybe the reception paragraph should encompass something along those lines.

Here's a question; should we get rid of the lines "Many fans feel...", in regards to the "inconsistencies" listed? Any inconsistencies could simply be revisions on the part of Bethesda, or additions/clarifications to the world. Failing that, could we actually list the grievances instead of using the clarification "many"? It's loaded and biased. In journalism school, we'd call that lousy reporting that conveyed the view of the writer rather than the actual story. And we'd be correct.--Nprice 20:26, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

This is not a neutral magazine, this is a fan run wiki, with some of the major contributors being Fallout fans that stood with the series since 1996. So please shove your journalistic "degree" where the sun don't shine and suck it up. That Furry Bastard 22:58, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm just tired of other people's bullshit, so I go straight to the point. I could make a dissertation, but that'd be wasted effort. In a nutshell, these kind of people want The Vault to be like any of the n+1 reviewers that collectively creamed their pants over Fallout 3 and reflect only the viewpoint of Fallout 3 reviewers and fans, which is only the newest development. The Fallout community is far older and the sentiments are far more complex. That Furry Bastard 23:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I was under the impression that the wikis were supposed to present a neutral viewpoint! My mistake; I'll overlook steaming, biased piles of crap around the wiki from now on. However! If there's a bit of contention or actual disagreement over the reception of the game, how about you actually make a complex and nuanced argument, rather than bitch about how Bethesda changed your precious game away from an isometric view? How about listing criticism of the game rather than a generic "many people" argument?--Nprice 19:29, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Collector's Edition[]

My collector's edition (PC version) also came with a soundtrack CD (5 songs, packaged as a GNR EP) and a mini-poster (same as cover art). I'm not sure if this is the case with all PC collector's versions or was some kind of pre-order promotion... Duncanxxxx 23:57, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Reception Section[]

I don't have the information myself to edit, but two quick issues with the reception section.

  • Leonard Boyarsky's comment has more to do with Interplay selling the rights to Fallout than the actual game. The comment's fine ( although maybe the reception section isn't the best place for it ) , but does he have any comments on the game itself?
  • The sentence on the fan reaction is fairly negative, and mentions things like plot holes and story errors, could we maybe mention some examples of what those are?

Oblivion-esque loading time problem.[]

Seems the 360 version, for me at least, is having the same problems Oblivion did, with loading, and such. I've noticed, after a few days of nonstop Fallout 3'ing, that objects in the distance tend to freeze up for a split second, then load. And also, I've noticed the sky flash black very quickly. Is there not a cache-clearing code, like in Oblivion, to clear the cache and speed the game back up?

I should note that I never could really tell when the cache-clearing worked in Oblivion.

puppies perk?[]

So I was reading this article and I noticed in the followers section it mentions dogmeat specifically, and it explains how he can die and so forth, but it says that the only way to get him back is via console command, however if you have the Puppies! perk another dog named "dogmeat's puppy" with the exact same functions and look of dogmeat after a few days. Although it is not exactly dogmeat saying you can never get dogmeat again is not entirely true, in fact the perk makes him almost expendable. I'm not saying someone should put this much detail into it, just kind of mention it, (ex. "once dogmeat dies the only way to get him back is via console command on the pc or with the puppies! perk from the broken steel DLC). Although I understand you don't want to clutter up your articles with stupid crap like this you should still edit the followers section at least a little bit to make it a bit less misleading. --68.164.110.165 05:35, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Page &/or Site Format Discussion[]

Game Time[]

Hey wondering whats the longest someones savegame has got? i just finished the game after 120 hours, and had 51,000 bottlecaps. not saying thats a record or anything but wondering what other people have had? cheers guys i know its probably not the place to put this either but was curious?

i have 170 hours but only 35,000 caps.--That70sdude 03:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Spoilers[]

To what format should a pre-release plot synopsis adhere? Spoiler alerts? Keeping spoilers to a minimum? Or full speed ahead?

Should story precis be limited after release? Three months after? A year?

My vote is for the second of the three, as being least intrusive and most effective at being both discreet and informative. Additionally, as a middle road it remains most relevant, even after release.

For example, I would replace the paragraph in Story concerning "The mysterious Mister Burke and his employer, Allistair Tenpenny" with "(they) are noteworthy for sending the player on a mission of sabotage and destruction", in order to convey the flavor of Burke's assignment without mentioning exactly what is to be done and where. I hope to get a consensus for changing this and any similar things, though. VvAnarchangelvV

Need help with "Tenpenny Tower" quest.[]

I killed most of the people in Tenpenny Tower, and it said quest added. (Tenpenny Tower, of course) It said I should talk to Roy and tell him the ghouls could come in, but I can't get to Roy. Gustavo's body disappeared and Herbert "Darling" Dashwood doesn't have the key to the stairs behind Tenpenny Tower, so I can't go through there. Warrington station is locked, and I can't get in. :S What could I do?

You basically f'd yourself, you should've pickpocketed the sub-basement key from Gustavo. Sub-basement's in a door outside tenpenny, but inside the walls, much like the bunker entrance in Fort Independence or Bannister, go in there and hack the terminal, thus letting the feral ghouls in.

Crazy Wolfgangs' "magic" repair skill change[]

An odd thing happened to Crazy Wolfgang once when I had him repair some stuff for me. He had a repair skill of 95 (which meant that he could repair to 97%). Now I already have enhanced his repair skill by giving him a pair of Workman's Coveralls (via reverse pickpocket) but that only made it raise to 85. Now here's what happened:

Wolfgang and his escort were traveling across the metal scaffolding next to the Jefferson Memorial when they encountered some Super Mutants. By the time I got there they had pretty much cleaned house. When I approached them, Wolfgang was standing near the ramp that leads down to the Gift Shop door (he was also standing partially in a scaffolding rod that was behind him). I engaged in trade and had him do a repair. That's when I noticed he had the 95 repair skill. Since then he has only had the 85 repair skill no matter where I find him.

I am running the game on the 360. I have all of the available DLC's to date. I am running the game from my HD. Any clues as to why this happened and more importantly, how do I make it happen again?

I'm not exactly sure but the clothing he was wearing before may have given him a higher repair. Also, it is possible that the 95 Repair is a glitch, but was undone once you reverse pickpocketed him. This resets the repair back to the value after fully investing in him in Merchant Empire. ΣΔ 20:37, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

Possible/Probable GOTY Edition Release Date[]

This is just an idea, but Bethesda said they want to release the GOTY edition in October, right?

They might've missed their chance to release FO3 on October 23rd, but I bet they'll do their damndest to release the GOTY Edition on that date.

The GOTY[]

I have Fallout 3 on ps3 and i've had it for about 3 years I've got just about everything and I now have the GOTY edition.I was wondering if there was any way possible I could load my regular fallout 3 file on the GOTY.

You can, but you should start over and play the add-ons, it's alot more fun to do them when you start, my advice, do Point Lookout after you've done Pre-Broken Steel.

Just a question about Game of the year edition[]

I was just wondering if the game of the year edition has all the content included on the games actual disk, or if it is on a seperate disk? And if it is on a seperate disk, I want to know if there is any way to play the addons with out having to save them to your hard drive, see, my 360 didn't come with a hard drive so I don't have the memory space to save the addons. Superinsomniac 01:03, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Just buy a hard drive, man, you'll be glad you did, particularly when it comes to stuff like DLC and XBLA. You can get a 20gb for ~$20 if you know where to look, though I recommend getting something bigger because 20gb HDs are really 13gb due to the system taking up a lot of it for some sort of "system purpouses." Dethtoll 05:58, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you do need a hard drive for the game of the year edition. I got the game of the year edition hoping for the same thing, because my 20gb hard drive is almost full. The 5 DLC packs come on the second disc, and they are all relatively small files with the total being around 2.2 gbs. However, you can also play the game on disc 1 without any DLC, or install one DLC pack at a time, to save space. --Keverosh 22:32, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

Time listed is wrong[]

In the section 'Behind the Scenes', seventh item, It says every single clock in Fallout 3 stopped at about 10:47.

The time on most clocks is actually 9:47. You can tell because the hour hand hasn't reached the number 10 yet.

Except, in Minefield (Ridgefield),

The fancy clock in the Zane house stopped at 11:16, and is hanging upside down. There is also a common white clock stopped at 9:47.
The Gillian house has two, one upside down in the kitchen stopped at 11:16, and one upstairs hanging right side up also stopped at 11:16. There is also a common white clock stopped at 9:47 in the children's room.
The Benson house also has two like the Gillian house, except the upstairs clock is tilted to the right a little.
The Gibson house doesn't have any clocks.

And, in Tranquility Lane

Houses that have a fancy clock are stopped at 11:16
If you select your Pip-Boy, you will instead see a wrist watch stopped at 2:55.

And, in Fort Independence

A Nuka-Cola clock is stopped at 5:45
-note- In the DLC "The Pitt" time is also stopped at 5:45 on a Nuka-Cola clock in the abandoned apartments in Uptown Pittsburgh —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:5B0:45CB:6EC8:85EE:96DA:1ED8:521D (talkcontribs) 16:53, November 3, 2019. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

If nobody has any objections, I will edit the main page in a couple days to correct the time from 10:47 to 9:47 and note that not all clocks in the game are stopped at this time.

Also, in the Statesman Hotel Mid Level, right after you enter after passing over the bridge from the hospital, there's another clock stopped at 11:16.

Rivet City tsunami ?[]

"The central hub of civilization in the ruins of the former capital is Rivet City, based in and around the remains of an aircraft carrier carried far inland and beached by a catastrophic tsunami whose waters have long since receded."

This *needs* to change, it's grossly inaccurate and from the in-game evidence actually impossible. A tsunami powerful to strand the Rivet City carrier in downtown DC would've also obliterated the surrounding area. By obliterated I mean absolutely flattened.

It's much more likely that the RC carrier acted under standing orders to use its reactors to supply DC with power, which would explain its being docked at the Washington Navy Yards. Such orders exist in our world and have been actioned by US nuclear carriers and subs in the past, precedent exists.

Hi! Hey, I know about that precedent too. That concept makes sense to me too, unless the Potomac River isn't deep enough. Is it? I know that the U.S.S. POTOMAC AG-25, formerly the U.S.C.G.C ELECTRA, and the U.S.S. SEQUOIA AG-23, and the U.S.S. MAYFLOWER PY-1, later to become the U.S.C.G. MAYFLOWER WPG-183, would be docked close enough to be used by POTUS,to be convenient enough for use before the days of Marine One. However as yachts, they were much smaller in draft than an aircraft carrier would be. But anyway, the whole tsunami concept reminds me of the movie "2012", which is only next year now as I write this. The scene with the U.S.S. JOHN F. KENNEDY CV-67,ya' know. Which my the way, to me, looked like someone had finally agreed to pay for it becoming a floating museum, or else the aircraft on the flight deck shouldn't have been able to surf all the to the White House where the wave seemed intent on finally crashing, and thus depositing the ship on it. On a side note to the side note, that scene and the scene with the fancy new type of cruise ship, seemed to me, to be foreshadowing the design of the new arks. As in how massive would the minimum size need to be, and what hull type, et cetera, would work best for the arks. Probably to demonstrate to ship lovers in the audience that might be wondering what type of surface ships might survive, since nuclear-powered submarines might be default anyway. Hey, it's 2011 now! Where's that promised "2013" TV-series?! To borrow a phrase from Peter David... "But I digress." Leo Star Dragon 1. 70.129.174.55 03:14, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

I have no idea what you said, but in my opinion, the water was alot deeper, but now, over 200 years, it is extremely shallow for an aircraft carrier.

Regardless, the idea of a tsunami is preposterous and irrelevant anyway, to the current circumstances of Rivet City. ΣΔ 03:44, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

Additional Items in Japanese Censorship[]

So I'm currently playing through the Japanese version of Fallout 3 on the PS3, and apart from the couple of changes listed I have also found a number of other lesser known changes.

-Cannibalism perk is changed to 'Mystic Power', references to cannibalism have been removed from the description, and the pip-boy image has been altered to remove blood stains and body parts.

-No fingers for Lawbringer (possibly ears too, haven't played as Contract Killer yet) this is replaced with a scroll of paper which seems to provide proof of the guy being a bad dude, I'm assuming there is an equivalent for the Contract Killer path.

I think they also sensor out, not entirely, the "Power of The Atom" quest, Mr.Burke I think appears as Tojo, and instead of him being evil, he's a good guy with a long beard that honorably killed Lucas Simms and tells you," DISARM BOMB NOW! OTHERWISE NO GIFT FO' CWISTMES! (Christmas)

Censorship[]

Hello,

i want to say that in Germany is Fallout 3 also censored. There is no blood anyway, the robots doesn´t explode and you can´t shoot the head off or other parts of the body. That is also notable in the part "censorship" isn´t it? Maybe anyone can edit that.

--Maurice

What's Germanies problem with gore anyway? If the other countries don't have a problem with it, then why? Tezzla blah blah blah 06:57, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah man Germany has some problem with rating things low. For example Call of Duty 2 is rated M. WTF? And then there's a bunch of movies that are banned there that are like barely Teen here. But then they legalize hookers. Germans are sensitive on violence I guess.--95.168.109.63 02:41, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

There's plenty of reasons (not really good ones, but understandable ones). I believe Wikipedia has a page on it. Australia on the other hand... my God what is up with their censorship? Dreadhand 20:36, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Ummm, FO3 in Australia went uncensored mate, just Morphine -> Med-X change. Or are you talking about Aussie censorship in general? --Johnny Trash (Talk) 02:46, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

The Germans are really, really bitchy about their image ever since we tore down the Berlin Wall. It largely has to do with the fact that they don't like to be associated with Nazis. That's why they really get sensitive about issues like violence. Especially child violence. Of course, they shoot themselves in the foot with the ego they have in the end.Shdowhunt60 15:58, October 28, 2011 (UTC)

Let's not be prejudicial or anything here... I respect Germany and their decisions of censorship. However, I sincerely doubt it has any effect on shaping the morality of society. ΣΔ 03:46, December 14, 2011 (UTC)

I dont have any respect for governments that feel they know what media is best (excluding pornography which must have some censorship). Whether it be video games or movies these are in a sense 'art' by design. If its too violent or gory than let the purchaser decide, if the people as a whole hate it then the market will speak for itself and the companies will learn. As an adult, the German and Australian governments should have no authority other than put a rating on the box; as to what you should see, let that be your decision. Socialism is scary. As to the Japanese having the little boy removed from megaton - good lord, the entire game is about nuclear war and the aftermath if that isint offensive enough to the Japanese I think they are smart enough to know that this is a video game. 97.94.137.38 03:33, August 14, 2012 (UTC)Morky

Fallout 3 Game of The Year Edition and The New Xbox 360 Slim[]

You cannot install the add-ons from the second disc because the new Xbox 360 4 gig version does not regester the "Memory Unit" as a hard drive. Don't know if this is will ever be fixed during a Live update or not. You can however still download them from Xbox live. 184.60.24.160 00:54, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

That's strange, I have a slim, and also have the GOTYE, But the addons are on a seperate disc of course, Mothership Zeta on my disc is included with the others, all one disc containing all 5 addons Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, And Mothership Zeta, and Point Lookout... Your Xbox may be Broken, because I installed the addons easily, and now I've completed them all, and draining the wasteland of it's every resource. :|

End date?[]

Can FO3 actually end after awhile, like Fallout 2? NukaBot 22:03, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

The only way to get Fallout 3 to end is to activate the purifier without Broken Steel loaded. --Kris User Hola 22:05, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Question to addons and Goty[]

Hello i am german, I have been directed here by the german wiki.

I bought F3 uncut in London and my question is whether i can play on a german xbox 360 F3 english with german addons. There is a special offer in a store (broken steel, the pitt, anchorage, and point lookout for 15 €). So i want to ask, if it works together. Xbox Live is still too expensive (800 MS each). Are there downloadcodes in the Goty (40€)? Could I use the uncut main game wiht the donwloadcodes togehter? The Internet doesn´t have a concrete answer and the german wiki neither.

Maybe you should move to America, just saying. Oh and uh, let me answer your question, they made a Game Of The Year Edition, it should come with the present add-ons.

Game of the Year Edition is Fallout 3 with all 5 add-on's already included. German XBoxe's should be the same as British (PAL). 97.94.137.38 03:40, August 14, 2012 (UTC)Morky

Possible sequel, besides New Vegas?[]

I was thinking of like a next Fallout, since they have made NV already, they should, if they will, or can, make a Fallout 4. Now, I know this is a pretty stupid idea, right? Well, if you have ideas, and comments, post them here. I'll put a few.

My Ideas:

-Not set in the U.S. Maybe China, Russia, etc.

-No luck skill (maybe), I think it's pretty pointless.

New creatures, Bethesda, ( if they make a new one ) Just HAS to get new creatures, like mutated polar bears, Giant eagles, or even tunnel snakes, (giant snakes that come up, and out, in, and about, lol, that basically will be a challenging opponent, I'd imagine they could come up with something like a-- alternative to super mutants.

Nothing is that destroyed, why? Why would you want it to be? I mean, come on, if you really want the expierience to be genuine, you'll need to have little destruction, so maybe half of it would have to be based in a rural area, this could include add-ons, possibly. But if they were to make a new one, I'd think it wouldn't need them. So, tell me what you, think, and make new ideas. I'll list down subjects, you can make your own.

I'd suggest having someone for a character such as someone like a Think Tank scientist, except he/she wouldn't be a brain, he/she discovered a terrible secret in the settlement of bio-chemists, I don't know, maybe he/she found out they're making a superhuman, super FEV Virus thing, I don't know. He/she is banished, this much like Veronica from FNV, only you aren't still in the organization. They re-take you, finding out in your records that you are the perfect lab-rat for the new Super FEV expierement, your character would initially refuse, and escape the base, initionally, not optional,(so basically a cutscene would be nessecary in this respect) opening up the FEV Gases, or liquids containers, and exposing the crazed Chemists, which would then create a

new enemy, for Russia, China, or Greenland, someplace with a little life, not a city, anyways, the enemy would most likely be a Super mutant like thing, so basically, your character f**ks the place he's living in, you'll need to get out of there, obviously, and do anything besides staying there. You should have at least 5, or more factions. One being Remnants of the BoS, and Enclave United. One being maybe some Snow Sheperds, (A tribe, well-equipped with Sniper Rifles, Anti-Material-Rifles, 44. Revolvers, Hunting Rifles, Hunting Shotguns, and few Energy Weapons.) But that depends on Area, if it were going to be set in china, besides Russian, Canada, or Greenland, and yes, I am sick of the U.S. in this game. If it were city regions and Forest Regions, like China, or India, you'd HAVE to have some sort of Raiders, like People in China, a main enemy. You know? Like skilled troopers, wearing anything they can get their hands on, and having silenced weapons like pistols, Assault Carbines, and SMGs. The main thing I think would be cool is the Remnants of your previous allies, Ultimate Super Mutants, with maybe, uhh-- this may sound dumb, Orange, or White Super Mutants, maybe even a rare super mutant, like a burned one, pitch black, found in caves of the Snow Desert, or Jungle Paridiso.

New Weapons: Gatling Laser, but with proton charge packs, instead of negative-electricity charging electrons, maybe with a green, or blue beam. Plasma Launcher, kind of like a lava launcher, if they're real, I'm pretty sure they aren't, but you catch my drift, right? And maybe some blue plasma, to give it kind of a Halo edge.

New Locations/Decorative ideas: Nuclear Power plants, like in Russia!

Enemies/characters:Enclave and BoS united? Awesome. Maybe they can like, I dunno make some super weapon, since they're both technology makers, and hoarders. It'd be a shame not to make them in the game, it would have to be in Greenland or Canada, somewhere close to the U.S.

Vehicles?: Vertabirds, with gatling Chainguns? And uh... maybe like one of those go-karts from Rage.

Allies: Definitley Snow Sheperds, Obviously, how I describe them, it'd make a good, and taken-for-granted ally, since they have access to good tech, remember, no demanding, just suggesting.

Why this should be made: It would complete Fallout, since this is an old game, why not end it with somethig spectacular?

Why this shouldn't be made: I don't have reasons myself, but if you do, post them, and put honesty into it.

Easter Eggs: NO Aliens, I've think we've had about enough, if we were to have aliens, I would, how should I phrase this?"Puke my f***king eyes out."

Random encounters, same as above really:

Storyline ideas/changes to my ideas:

Factions: BoS and Enclave, maybe they can be allies, don't have to. Snow Sheperds, Chinese Raiders with pre-war chinese stealth books, obtained from chinese posts, they learn their techniques, to steal, and get any valuable recourse, since they are poor and need food and weapons, and if I'd create this game, witch I can't, I'd make them have panda, and tiger skins on them.

Creatures: Polar Yuo Gui! Tunnel Runner Snake! WHY am I exited?! Because, I just, wait...what? Whatever, back on subject. Flying Giant Vulture/Eagle, with basically no feathers except for the neck and wings, with mutated, rotten, burned skin.

Other: Snow effect, if in a polar region, raining, with rain drops, same with snow, because you don't want it down right easy, you need to have realisticness, if that is a word, in a game. Hail, Sand Storm, and some wind, witch would move the screen to the right or left, depending on winds, so, what I'm saying is, if it were made, I'd personally, want it to be awesome, I can describe that in other words.

Post Regular comments here, of how awful I am at suggesting things, I don't know, whatever, but don't put anything vulgar. Before you start bomboarding this subject, let me explain, I'm not demanding anything, I'm just seeing if anybody wants a Fallout 4, and maybe, just maybe, Bethesda could see this.

Your OTHER ideas:

Oh, I should put this...

When will bethesda take responsibility for there BROKEN games?[]

OK ive had enough. Seriously. I wanted to get fallout 3 broken steel so i can extend the game, however, there is no way in hell im paying 9.99 for that add on. So i bought game of the year edition for $15 and got all the add ons. Well, ive run into issues and ive read on it, and im one of millions with the same issue. It will NOT stop crashing. First, im playing on a slim 160GB PS3. Well, no other ps3 games freeze on it besides fallout new vegas or the original fallout 3. (coincidence?). Well, on the original non DLC game, i could play up to 8 hours without issues, however with GOTY Edition, i can only play for maybe 1-3 hours. Ive been told that the reason of these freezings are actually to do with that crappy crash prone DLC "Point Lookout". I wish they would release a patch that would allow us to turn off certain DLC on the GOTY Edition, because i want to try to narrow down the issue. Im tired of all bethesda games i have freezing. Its not cool, and fallout 3 is a fantastic game that got slapped in the face with GOTY edition. Speaking of this, there getting a GOTY Edition AKA Ultimate edition pack ready for new vegas. Who in there right mind will buy that with all the issues fallout 3 GOTY edition gives? I hope they give some kind of way to turn off certain DLC, because on that game, i bought honest hearts and lonesome road. Honest hearts was fine with a few lags, lonesome road was a freeze nightmare. Need help. Has anyone found ways on slightly stopping freezes? --216.176.21.131 21:49, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

9.99 ain't so much. If you don't want the add-on disc, or discs, the only other way you can get them is to get Xbox LIVE gold, and redeem a code. And turn an add-on off? I don't get how add-ons affect the normal wasteland, the only DLC that changes the wasteland's appearance by the slightest bit is Mothership Zeta, and the other being Broken Steel, for a train tunnel, and bunker. This game is ALOT better with the DLCs, don't even tell me they aren't, they made my Fallout expierience a whole lot better, if you're glitching or lagging, freezing, etc. You should switch to the Xbox 360 Slim, if you already have one, the disc might be cracked, scratched, or laser burned.

Possible cite-able source for bugs[]

The changelist for the Fallout 3 Unofficial Patch is a fairly large list of bugs that have been patched by fans -- and that, consequently, do (or have at some point) still exist in official copies of the game, including console versions. Though the source is unofficial, it seems quite reliable, and hypothetically, anyone should be able to crack open the mod's contents to verify that it changes what it claims to.

This all means that the mod's changelist, which can be downloaded on its own via the provided link, could be an excellent way to add formal, verifiable citations to glitches mentioned in Fallout 3 articles all over this wiki. Rather useful, especially since the game has many random or occasional glitches that can be difficult to reproduce, but easy for a modder to fix once identified.

I like Cheese[]

Cheese.

False Deification[]

Microsoft India decided not to release the game in that country, citing "cultural sensivities". It has been speculated that this is either because the cattle in the game are called brahmin, which is the name of the highest Hindu caste, or possibly due to the fact that the player can kill and eat the cattle, which, as it is a sacred animal, is against the principles of most Hindu sects.

The above bolded is false. Sacred is a christian term and does not apply to India. Even if it did there are quote "no cow deities, statues, icons; and no temples to cows". Cows are actually only venerated in India.

Source: QI (Quite Interesting) Season 2 episode 12 Birth QI has multiple researchers doing the research of the show so I do not have the sources they used. But even a quick google search can tell you the meaning of sacred

Not only to mention India is the largest exporter of beef in the world. [2]

Windows 7[]

Should this page really list Windows 7 as a platform? The game is definitely not built for it. If Windows 7 is going to stay listed as a platform, it should probably list windows 8 as well.

I have the game in both OS 'windows 7 and 8', they work fine hence it should list down both win7 and 8. ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 00:34, March 28, 2015 (UTC)
