Grisly Diner[]

  • Would'nt the underworld be considered a settlement?

I think Grisly Diner is not listed...pardon me if it is and i've missed itl Springvale school needs to be added Vault 102 21:45, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Number of locations discovered with all DLC[]

I have all of the DLC and have completed everything from what I can tell..I do NOT have the Lawbringer Perk and I have 220 locations listed under the 'General' Tab in my Pip-Boy. From several forums I have read, out of the 223 locations listed on this Wiki, it would seem that 220 is correct for having everything as 2 locations disappear after quests and 1 location only appears if you have the Lawbringer perk. Am I correct?

Well mate, same for me here. I do not have the Lawbringer perk, and I have all Add-ons and all quests completed. Now I just wander around summming 240 hours of gameplay and 220 locations discovered. I used the Rad-X-Radaway-ninja-trick to reach the frontdoor of the Vault 87. Can anyone else check this? Which locations disappear after quests?--Sonicthreat 16:00, November 18, 2009 (UTC)

I've discovered 221 locations (got Vault 87) and i have the Lawbringer perk. What areas am I missing? The Explorer perk wouldnt miss them by any chance, would it? MC93 Medic!! 19:43, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Same here MC93. I think there are only 221 in game, with all DLC. Whoever said 225 has miscounted I believe. 3 things...

--Point Lookout unlocks the "all points found" achievement early, as you can find more after this. For me, I found the easy entrance to kennys hideout, which showed up on map after I got the achievement. So, I wonder if there's more laying around. About to go over the PL locations now here soon.

--The satellite location, in the wasteland, that is available with The Pitt. It disappears after returning from the Pitt, however I didn't think to check if it takes your location count down by 1.

--Hard to explain....goto the "National Archives" page and look at the image showing where it is on the map. There are many Metro Station locations on that map where I have nothing on my map at all (with 221 locations found). One appears above Anacostia Station, and 3 (plus other locations, hard to keep track of them) appear in what, in my game, is a giant space of emptiness/no locations between Takoma Park and the Ranger Compound. I see this on all maps, and it may be because people are spacing the locations to make the maps easier to read, but no map on the web has these listed, so I can't say for sure. It makes it very confusing. If these exist, the only way to reach them would be via metro, as that big space is blocked off on all sides (similar to Bailey's Crossroads). I haven't been able to find a metro that takes me there; the whole metro system is a confusing clusterfuck. Again, in the end I believe there are only 221 locations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.200.248.218 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Well, the number on the page is supposed to represent the real number of marked locations, no matter whether these markers are temporary (like Radio tower) or not - this doesn't necessarily have to be the same number as "locations discovered" in the Pip-Boy. This number is derived from our Fallout 3 map, which shows all locations with a map marker (the unmarked locations on it, like Rockopolis, have not been counted). Unless you can point out which locations on there do not have a map marker in the game (other than the aforementioned which weren't counted), the number should be correct.
You're right that the Anacostia Crossing map marker image shows a few markers which do not appear in the vanilla game, thanks for pointing that out. Probably the editor who took that image had a mod installed which made these appear. However, this doesn't have any bearing on the location count as these markers do not appear on our Fallout 3 map. -- Porter21 (talk) 12:24, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

Could this article be any more confusing? Why is there no list of locations that actually count instead of this mass of locations that are both marked and unmarked? Why would you not separate them instead of using italics (which btw, I have found in some articles that the italics system isn't consistent.) Also, why would you even bother to add that there are 225 locations, but only 221 count on your Pipboy without bothering to list what those other 6 locations are?(or why they aren't counted?) How are we supposed to know if we found them or not? I'm trying to unlock everything in the game, but the information here is frustratingly hard to follow. Number of locations discovered (aka Vault 101 doesn't count)[]

In my Pip-Boy i have 189 Locations discovered with 3 DLCs. Didn't bother with Vault 87, so there are at least 190. --ThorX 12:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, Fallout 3 map lists 163 markers (+8 for DLC). Somehow I don't think there are 20+ missing. However, possibly the Pip-Boy counts markers discovered on different world maps (Adams AFB, The Pitt, Anchorage simulation) as well - that might explain the difference. Adams has 4 markers, Pitt has 6 I believe - not sure how many the simulation has, will have to check that. However, that'd still mean there only 163 pre-DLC and even with DLC, only 171 in the Wasteland. Maybe we should clarify that. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:08, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
The simulation has 11 (see File:Anchorage map.jpg) which would make for a grand total of 192. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:12, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Article states 'A list of places to be found in Fallout 3' not in Wasteland. I don t think you should separate locations. How many in Wasteland ? DC ? DC by area ? Besides, i was checking my 'Locations discovered' against this number all the way, it would be rather annoying to have to compute it all the time... Seams i missed one in Anchorage, damn ... --ThorX 13:39, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
My point is not seperating locations, my point is to make the statement clear enough that people do not wonder why there are "only" 171 locations on the Fallout 3 map. Hence it makes sense to state how many locations are in the Wasteland and how many there on seperate world maps in my opinion. -- Porter21 (talk) 13:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Nice work :) --ThorX 13:49, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Strangely, I have only 190 locations listed in the Pip-Boy as well (including Vault 87). Something doesn't add up here... Maybe related to the 2 map markers which get (temporarily) disabled (Jefferson Memorial, Radio Tower)? -- Porter21 (talk) 14:03, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Makes sense, otherwise this is really a strange cap. Number of locations going down after temporary locations get disabled ? --ThorX 14:11, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Seems likely to me. -- Porter21 (talk) 14:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

"Pre-DLC, there are 163 marked locations in Fallout 3" I didn't install DLCs and got total 161 (including not-yet-enter Raven Rock and Vault 87), 162 if I have Lawbringer perk. How come there are 163? Or the reappeared Jefferson Memorial is counted as one "new" location? (I'm still at Vault 87 now.) --NovaRain 14:35, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, seems to be the same what ThorX and me were discussing. Map markers which get temporarily disabled seem to vanish from the Pip-Boy count. In the base game that's only Jefferson Memorial, if you have The Pitt it is the same with Radio Tower. At least, that seems to be the most logical explanation. -- Porter21 (talk) 15:24, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Also Contract Killer perk might give you a location and that would be the one i missed. --ThorX 15:28, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
No, it doesn't (the office where you can turn in ears is at Scrapyard and doesn't have its own marker). -- Porter21 (talk) 15:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
You're right, just checked ... --ThorX 15:31, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
So there should be total 162 location without any DLC? Since it looks like there's no the 163rd location... --NovaRain 15:41, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, there are 163 markers (see Fallout 3 map). However, the Pip-Boy displays only 162 in the "locations discovered" stat. -- Porter21 (talk) 15:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe you don't 'discover' Vault 101 since you came out of there ? --ThorX 17:05, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
When you leave Vault 101, the Pip-Boy displays "Discovered locations: 1", so I don't think it's that. The disabled markers theory makes more sense to me, especially since the discrepancy rises to 2 with DLCs installed. -- Porter21 (talk) 18:41, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

OK, I've finished the game, the reappeared Jefferson Memorial isn't counted as one new location, and the map marker didn't reappear. I still only get total 162 locations (included Regulator HQ). The 163rd location just doesn't exist. Why or Who said the map got 163 locations (sorry, but I just don't want to check them one by one) and what the heck the "missing" 163rd location is? --NovaRain 03:59, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

I'll say it again: there are 163 markers noted at Fallout 3 map. If you don't want to count them, that's your prerogative, there still are 163 though. -- Porter21 (talk) 04:36, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Guess I was too negative about this, my fault. But I still can't find what location I missed (I've checked the list under the map, strange, I've got all the locations), or maybe there's one location that just doesn't "count" in Pip-boy? Could it be "Flooded Metro"? Since there are two of them have the same name by mistake(?), the game might just count them as one location? --NovaRain 05:20, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, could be. It's more likely though that the game subtracts the marker for Jefferson Memorial from the count when it gets temporarily disabled (after The Waters of Life) and does not add it again when it is re-enabled later on. The reason this is more likely is that the discrepancy between actual markers and Pip-Boy count rises to 2 with the DLCs installed; while the DLCs do not have locations with the same name, The Pitt does feature another map marker which gets disabled after discovery (the one for Radio tower). -- Porter21 (talk) 05:31, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
It looks like the disabled Jefferson Memorial marker doesn't subtract the count. My another save is before entering Vault 112, and in that save I've already discovered all location (close to a power play I guess). Pip-boy displays I got 162 locations. If the subtraction did happened, I should got 161 in my final save in Project Purity room, but I still got 162. Maybe I should start a new game, toggle the god mode, and rush to the two "Flooded Metro" to see the result... --NovaRain 05:41, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
What about getting DLC-s, getting all new locations and then compare that number ? should be easier ... --ThorX 13:22, 20

May 2009 (UTC)

I'm positive I have discovered all locations (checked different maps, TWICE, and manually counted) with the first three DLC packs, and I have 190 listed on my Pip-boy, Regulator HQ included. It seems that two locations are not marked off. The Radio Tower in The Pitt has disappeared, so that might have taken one count, but what could be the other one? Maybe Jefferson Memorial has been overlooked after Broken Steel, and they forgot to make it count in your total when it becomes listed on your map again. MisterGrieves567 21:57, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

ALL LOCATIONS HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED CONGRATS ME!!!!!! EVEN VAULT 87 but IM A GHOUL!!!!!--Kirby888 03:48, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Vault 101 isn't classed as a location discovered, at least on the PS3 version

I just confirmed this on PC as well; it was driving me nuts because my Pip-Boy is listing 160 locations discovered when I couldn't find anything else to discover besides Vault 87 and Raven Rock with no DLC installed: I loaded up an old save of an alternate character just before leaving Vault 101 for the outside, then walked outside and verified that the Vault 101 marker was on my Pip-Boy but my number of locations stat was listed as zero. I then proceeded to Megaton and noticed that after discovering it my number of locations visited was listed as 1. I'm going to add this info to the article and possibly the Vault 101 article. Also, the tmm 1 command frustratingly doesn't update your locations discovered counter in Pip-Boy, yet it fully activates the markers such that you can fast-travel to them. --HunterZ 02:37, April 12, 2011 (UTC)

Top 10 most dangerous locations in Fallout 3[]

These locations to me are the most dangerous ones in Fallout 3. Feel free to comment and add your own most dangerous locations. This is not including any of the DLC.

10:Old Olney-this place is one of the most dangerous because of the Deathclaws, but the area has alot of space and makes it easy to spot a Deathclaw.

9:Deathclaw Sanctuary-the place is dark and has several Deathclaws. It's dark and maze-like, with a good chance of running into multiple Deathclaws. Sneaking could make a visit to the Sanctuary a lot easier.

8:Vault 87-full of Super Mutants and radiation. But with only a few Super Mutants in each room. With Fawkes helping you kill them, it is only slightly difficult.

7:Statesmen Hotel-dark and you can easily get lost in the hotel, plus the place is overrun with an army of Super Mutants.

6:Seward Square-a battle field between Talon Company and Super Mutants. It is almost impossible not the get caught up in the battle. Even if you trying going around it through a ally way there is a guy that set up bombs in it. Well of course you will blow up going in there but what is really anoying is he keeps talking in a microphone about crazy crap.

5:Vernon Square-Crawling with Super Mutants in every building, block, and alley. Full of radiation because a huge missile in the center of it.

4:Evergreen Mills-there is only one entrance in Evergreen Mills which means there is only one exit. Full of Raiders all over walking around and on top of platforms. Attacking in the open guns blazing can cause a raider to open to gates to the cell holding a Super Mutant Behemoth.

3:Capitol Building-This includes both inside and outside of the building. Full of Super Mutants and Talon Company. There are only a few robots in the battle, possibly a Sentry Bot or Robo Brain. If you have done Waters of life quest, Enclave can come landing outside of the building. There is a Deathclaw fighting outside also, it is possibly from the Enclave. In the Center of the building lies a few raiders and a Behemoth. It's pretty much a warzone.

2:Fort Independence-(If you're hostile with the BOS Outcast)this can be a hard fort to take over. The Outcast are well equipped with Miniguns, Missile Launchers, gatling lasers, etc. outside the fort are more Outcast and Turrets.

1:Fort Bannister-the main head courters of the Talon Company. Outside the Fort lies mercs with missle launchers, laser rifles, assualt rifles, etc. with a few gurd dogs. Inside the Fort there is at least 30 turrets on the ceiling. Lots of mercs with high tech weapons and Mr Gustys and Sentry Bots. At the end of the fort the leader of the Talon Company, Commander Jabsco is equipped with a missile launcher, chinese pistol, and his unique combat knife, Occam's Razor. There is 3 parts of the fort. All well defended. Which makes Fort Bannister the most dangerous location in Fallout 3. --Kirby888 17:29, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree with Fort Bannister, that was a BITCH! Although I do disagree with Fort Independence. Also some that are dangerous are the:
  • GNR plaza during the attack with the Super Mutants.
  • There's also the Citadel if you want to kill everyone in there (like I did, hehe. Made a fortune off that place)
  • What about Fort Constantine? It's LOADED in sentry bots and mister gutsy's
  • Finally, Raven Rock. A lot of Enclave with laser and plasma guns. SuSpence95 01:54, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh I almost forgot to add, Minefield because of all the mines, you can easily get a few crippled limbs. SuSpence95

01:56, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Like I said these are my opinions. Fort Constantine was a piece of cake you just need the right things, like followers and energy weapons. MINEFIELD IS TOO EASY! Just defuse the mines. Same with Raven Rock, only a Enclave soldiers and coward scientist. I don't know what kind of person would attack Citadel. And please don't say things like HEY YOUR MISSING THIS!!! Read the top of the message make your own list. --Kirby888 15:12, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Supply points[]

Make supply points in areas which are safe or guarded like "roboco repair shop(best to hack in to the turret terminals) and raideo stations in the sewers

Missing 2 locations[]

I have all 4 DLC and only 190 of the 192 locations discovered (i am not including Point Lookout locations in this because i havent started it yet.) I have been to the alien crash site and i cant think of what other locations i could be missing. the only other places that i think i could have missed are 2 places in Operation Anchorage. does anybody know what these 2 locations could be. (i have lawbringer and explorer perk but i got the explorer perk before i got any of the DCL)

How many are you subtracting for PL? Fat Man Spoon 20:17, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Maybe Radio tower and Riverboat Landing? Radio Tower disappears after finishing the Pitt, and Riverboat Landing shows up before starting before Point Lookout. Just doing my job. 20:21, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

I can see the Riverboat Landing on my Pip-Boy 3000 and i don't see how i could have missed the radio tower. but i am talking about the pre-DLC locations i haven't discovered.

The Jefferson Memorial! Fat Man Spoon 20:44, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

The Adams storage facility? Just doing my job. 20:47, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Already had Adams storage facility, because i found that by accident.

Could Olney Powerworks be considered, because i don't have any idea what locations i am missing.

Girdershade[]

Should Dukovs place not be a settlement because it has 3 people which is 1 more than Girdershade has. Can someone change this?--LoneMerc101 11:36, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

springvale hidy hole[]

there is a cellar in springvale that says only a key can open, is this a bug? ive looked everywhere for it.--70.50.141.122 01:49, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

1 missing location[]

I currently have 161 locations, so according to the wiki page here, I am missing 1(don't have lawbringer perk), but I have no clue which one it is. I have this flashplayer interactive map which I checked over 3 times now and I have them all according to that map. I did just finish the 'waters of life' quest, so Jefferson Memorial isn't there, but people say that shouldn't matter. So I am wondering if there is any way to check which ones I'm missing. Don't have any DLC's Or is there a marker that only appears after you did some main story quest ? (I have all bobbleheads except energy weapons, but I have discovered Raven rock, so I really have been everywhere) No map I check has more locations, so any help would be appreciated.

The Vault 87 surface entrance, perhaps? Spoon Leave me a freakin' message 00:48, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

Good guess, but I spent about 50 radaways just to get that one lol, it's right here on my map (with the little gear/vaultdoor icon) —Preceding unsigned comment added by BobMaster (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Making a Museum for my character[]

Im making a museum for my character, I need atleast a well lit area. I can lure people myself to the places, but I need a nice clean area like the Tenpenny Tower Med Center. My character is a Slaver, a Canabal and has completed alot of side quests and gone to all but one vault. He lives in Tenpenny Tower. Im Writing a Fan Fic 03:12, December 2, 2009 (UTC)

missing explosive[]

testing area[]

Does the testing area count as a place? its not on the map but it has a placement in the PC :S —Preceding unsigned comment added by SiloZen (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

No, only places that can be accessed through normal gameplay. Kris (talk) 23:18, July 30, 2010 (UTC)

Decapitalization[]

When someone gets around to this page, be sure to test your links (preview the page) and make sure they're correct before saving it. I also recommend going section-by-section rather than one big edit covering all the sections. --Kris User Hola 18:44, September 7, 2010 (UTC)

Errors on this page[]

There are still a couple of errors on this page, concerning the actual number of locations.

First of all, the "Contract Killer" perk does not add a map marker/location, so it shouldn't be mentioned on this page at all.

Without any DLC, there are 163 marked locations (including the perk "Lawbringer", it provides the Regulator HQ) on the world map. Vault 101 does not count as a discovered location, so you will find a maximum of 162 locations on your Pip-Boy.

The 5 DLC's add 61 marked locations, 51 of them on seperate world maps:

- Operation Anchorage adds 13 locations

- The Pitt adds 8 locations

- Broken Steel adds 7 locations

- Point Lookout adds 32 locations (but Kenny's Cave does not count as a discovered location on your Pip-Boy)

- Mothership Zeta adds one location (the Alien Homing Beacon), which does not count as a discovered location on your Pip-Boy

This means that, with all 5 DLC's, there are 224 marked locations of which only 221 (subtracting Vault 101, Kenny's Cave and the Alien Homing Beacon) will appear as discovered locations on your Pip-Boy.--Chickentoast (talk) 19:25, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Errors On Map?[]

Either my judgement is wrong or the map of the DC area is wrong.

1. Mason to Falls Church metro does not use Hubris Comics publishing/printing/utility since Hubris has its own seperate tunnel system exiting at the sewer grate near Wilhem's Wharf, yet there is no mention of this exit. 2. Tepid Sewer does not join with DCTA-014B 3. Where is the wasteland exit at Foggy Bottom Station? 4. WHERE IS L'ENFANT and Hazmat Disposal Site L5 amongst others?
