I was running around with about 24000 lead and I did not know that it actually had weight. I got rid of all the extra lead so now I have room for the unique minigun which is awesome.

1,000 units of lead weighs 1,4 lbs according to the game. So 715 units of lead equals 1 pound of carried weight.

I assumed that it was weightless but what I was carrying didn't add up with the carry weight so I checked my inventory and noticed that I was hauling around over 100,000 units.

When I dropped the lead, my carry weight went from 210 to 70. This is mostly a problem for hand loaders becuase taking ammo apart will leave you with a lot of lead.

The hidden weight section in the notes is incredibly interesting. I would have never known.--HelpMeRhonda213 00:17, March 31, 2011 (UTC)

Pack rat?[]

Does pack rat perk affect this? as its hidden weight is quite annoying for me, i once had 100 pounds of pure lead...--That dude with an unoriginal user name 20:17, January 28, 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering why my weight was so damn high. I realised it was because I was carrying around nearly 300k lead. As soon as I stashed that, my weight went from nearly 300, down to ~130. Aliantha 14:35, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

Acquiring Lead Efficiently Or Quickly[]

Anyone know of a quick and/or efficient way to acquire lead? I was hoping to find that on the page, but didn't see it anywhere. Wondering if there's a specific type of ammo that's better for breaking down that's easily obtainable or something like that. Perhaps list the most cost effective way and also the quickest way if possible since they are probably mutually exclusive.

Old Lady Gibson carries a good amount of Scrap Metal regularly. 1 piece of Scrap Metal comes out to 200 units of Lead. User:Great_MaraMessage 05:51, March 22, 2012 (UTC)
  • As Great_Mara said above, scrap metal is your best bet. If you finished dead money and have extra vouchers/chips you can get .308 or .347 rounds from the vending machine and break them down. All in all you’re better off just buying ammo. The khans armory and Bardon at the dam sell fairly large quantities of most rounds. Getting lead isn’t the real issue, its getting powder and primers. They are very rare to find for sale by vendors and its usually in very small amounts. I pick them up whenever I see them but usually you only find enough to reload 25-50 rounds. Why reload 50 rounds when between Bardon and the Khans you can buy 500-800 rounds? Seems pointless to me. ReapTheChaos 05:53, June 15, 2012 (UTC)
  • Sorry, I didn’t actually answer your question. The best ammo to break down for getting lead would be either .50MG, which yields 64 lead or 12 gauge rounds, which yield 37 lead. Those are also the best two rounds to break down if you’re trying to get powder as well. Of course if those happen to be the type of rounds you’re trying to reload then you could try .44 and 12.7 rounds, they both yield a decent amount of lead. All in all, scrap metal is still your best bet. Don't forget you can get scrap metal from the Book Chute, clip boards and pencils will both give you 1 scrap metal, pencils also give you 5 lead.
