Wasteland reference

I may be wrong, but wasn't the starting location of Wasteland (Fallout's spiritual predecessor) a base called something with "Sierra"? Perhaps this place is a tribute... Supermagle 10:58, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

AFAR - The Ranger Center, former prison. So rather not, however Per is right man with Wasteland.--dotz 11:20, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Can't extract brain

Whenever I have a companion in the extraction room, I select human and brain and proceed with extraction and all I get is the computer message 'Extraction failed'. No brain. So now I can't use Myron's brain for Skynet. Is there anything I need to do? Is there some kind of science check? My science skill is 75. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be much appreciated, as I really want to swap Myron for Skynet but don't want to give Skynet a crappy brain. --Peakey (talk) 11:49, September 4, 2012 (UTC) Joe Peake

Decap

I don't agree with decapitalizing the title of this page. "Sierra Army Depot VI" is the proper name of the location. If we didn't have the VI or further details on its name, or any other information, I could see the case for it, but this feels like an overreach. Almost every single source we have capitalizes the word depot, because that's the full name of a military facility. We don't capitalize it as "Fort Hood Army base" for example, because that's the entire name, it's not generic. AllYourFavorites! (talk) 14:34, November 1, 2020 (UTC)

  1. Fort Hood Army base is correct, just as Fort Hood military base would be correct.
  2. VI implies that it was one depot of many, and is just a generic descriptor.

- As a side-note, I do find it funny that it was still called a depot even after the various large-scale additions made to the facility's infrastructure. 寧靜 Fox 14:42, November 1, 2020 (UTC)

That doesn't change the fact that it's the proper name of the location. I didn't provide a very good example (a mere 5 seconds of Google research will not give good answers). VI "implying" that it's a generic descriptor is your interpretation of it, which is speculation and doesn't heed to the sources that we have. AllYourFavorites! (talk) 14:51, November 1, 2020 (UTC)
Certain military designations supersede normal language conventions, but this doesn't fall into that category; you would not capitalize listening post, forward base, cache, munitions bunker, depot, etc. etc.
As for VI, the game is straight up giving us a numerical designation - following standard military regulations, the burden of proof lies in the court that's saying VI is the name, and not there to denote numeral correlation. 寧靜 Fox 15:01, November 1, 2020 (UTC)
Ehhh. You make a good point, though I'm still apprehensive about the change, since most sources we have refer to it as the "Sierra Army Depot." AllYourFavorites! (talk) 15:58, November 1, 2020 (UTC)

I'm with AYF on this. Assuming it's one depot of many based purely on the graphic above the entrance is far-reaching, especially given the fact that it's obviously intended to be the real thing. Tägäżïël 10:36, November 2, 2020 (UTC) Furthermore, the grammar reference we literally have linked on the editing guideline page states that it should be capitalized:

Capitalization Reference List

[...] Manmade structures

the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, the Titanic

Tägäżïël 10:51, November 2, 2020 (UTC)

The link you provided us with corroborates what I'm saying since it also specifies that it is one regional depot out of many others.
There is also a vast difference between, say, the Eiffel Tower, and, say, a Nuka-Cola shipping factory. It's going to take me a bit, but I'll write up a more extensive explanation with sources. 寧靜 Fox 10:55, November 2, 2020 (UTC)

Actually, no. Sierra Army Depot is the formal name of a specific depot, not an identifier of a class of depots. Same deal as with Fort Independence or Mariposa Military Base. Tägäżïël 12:09, November 2, 2020 (UTC)

Alright - so, since this became a controversy (externally), I went ahead and took the time to sit down and look up the history regarding this facility in regards to its real-world counterpart. It's not apparent in-game, but the facility does seem to have an extensive command structure that separates it from a generic depot where obsolete hardware is thrown away to be forgotten, so I'm going to digress and revert my changes.
Fallout isn't always the same as the real-world, but the information is enough to base a decision off of. 寧靜 Fox 12:58, November 2, 2020 (UTC)
