Airco[]

Im thinking the sierra madre air conditioning and climate control melded so im thinking snow is the birth of the meld

Removed from the Notes section[]

I removed "It is referenced in President Kimball's speech, when he rewarded the Sierra Madre star to Private First Class Jeremy Watson." Since the entry is about the setting where the DLC takes place and the NCR medal is more likely to be named after the mountain range then a dilapidated hotel and casino in Nevada. - TandyBomb 18:41, December 10, 2010 (UTC)

"Swarve," should probably be replaced with "Suave."--OvaltinePatrol 17:27, December 19, 2010 (UTC)

How to get there[]

How do you get to the sierra madre?

I think it's clear that you're kidnapped... Okay sorry. Basically, when the DLC is loaded a new radio station is found. In my game, it popped up when I fast traveled to New Vegas. You then get a quest to find the source of the radio signal, with the quest marker leading you to the Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel bunker outside of Camp Forlorn Hope. You can go down there and explore a bit before you hit a point where you are warnned that going past a certain point will take you to the Sierra Madre - TandyBomb 16:40, December 22, 2010 (UTC)

Then, technically speaking, you are knocked unconcious with gas and Dog puts a bomb collar on you and drags you there. It's a little bit ambiguous how you get back, though, as you cannot find your way there again once you leave.

how do you get back after leaving?

Put simply, you don't. It's kind of like Operation: Anchorage; after the simulation, you can't go back to Anchorage. You should be able to, but you can't. It's the same principle with Dead Money. Best regards, Kastera talk 03:32, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

that blows

Agreed. Should have gotten that darn Snowglobe when I was there. 74.229.90.88 22:47, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

if you use the "tcl" command theres a door to the sierra madre right under the radio in the abandoned bunker. you have to do t just right though because the game will teleport you back up if you get too low. its a cheat, but it fixes what bethesda should have done in the first place.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.108.212.125 (talkcontribs). Casino rewards and ban[]

The notes regarding the casino payouts should be use to make a separate "Rewards and ban" section like all the other casino pages. Any objections? Minor Edits 07:21, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Okay, done.Minor Edits 21:08, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
If you like, there's an entire article dedicated to them at Big Winner, Sierra Madre. --Flower of Pock-Lips 21:14, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
I'm totally fine with putting all the casino info on that page and just linking to it on this page, if that's what you're suggesting. This page seems to be serving too many purposes. Minor Edits 21:53, January 11, 2011 (UTC)
The winnings requirement for the Complimentary Voucher (and the Free Chips (1000) unlock code) is 7000 chips, not 7500 chips.174.0.106.101 12:21, January 13, 2011 (UTC)
The winnings requirement for the 3rd comp (Complimentary Voucher) is 7500, not 7000. I got pulled away at 7500 chips playing blackjack, doing a double down with 7100 chips won so far. So no more editing it back 7000+. Big Winner, Sierra Madre ScreamingFalcon 03:43, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

Sierra Madre Location[]

Two things:

1) Shouldn't any discussion of the location of the Villa, casino, et al., be moved to the main Dead money page? I mention this because this seems to be an article specifically about the Sierra Madre casino, which would obviously be located with the rest of the town. I just want to check in to see if anyone has a problem with me moving this info...
2) Any new consensus on said location? The current suggestions of California or Mexico seem unsatisfactory, at least to me, as there is no indication whatsoever that either California or Mexican gaming law in Fallout differs from real-world gaming laws in these places, which prohibit casinos in both places (with the exception of Californian casinos falling under the auspices of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988, which seem irrelevant given a total lack of evidence that Frederick Sinclair had any sort of Native American heritage). The prevalence of English, the abundance of pre-War American money, and the Sierra Madre's dual purpose as an unofficial Vault all suggest an American location, but most likely a location in Nevada - probably somewhere in the southeastern part of the state, given its location in the Mojave and the total lack of NCR traffic in the area. Any thoughts?

Look, I know these are pretty niggling, petty questions, but isn't that what a wiki is for? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

The Sierra Madre is a real location in the world. It is north of the Rio Grande, in between the river and parts of Nevada and Arizona.

Macmanius 02:38, January 14, 2011 (UTC)

The Sierra Madre's location is somewhere in the west of the Mojave, past the mountains. I found this out by markinga spot in the Sierra Madre, and then I went back to the Mojave wasteland. Then I looked at the world map and saw that the Sierra Madre was still marked. I printscreened it: http://img202.imageshack.us/i/sierramadrelocation.jpg/

^ In regards to the above: I got curious about this and set a marker dead center of the World Map while still in the Villa. Upon my return to the Mojave Wasteland, I discovered my marker dead center in the Mojave World Map (somewhere around Hidden Valley, if I recall). So, consequently, that's not a way to stake out a location for the Sierra Madre resort.

Still a somewhat plausible location, though - can't get to it by normal means, and you wouldn't be able to get near enough to eyeball any sign of the Cloud. If the official release didn't go out of its way to say it was in the Mojave, I'd be content to say it was safely off-map somewhere to the extreme northwest or so. It still could be, really - geographically, it's still a safe bet that it could be somewhere beyond the wreckage blocking the 95 highway, just beyond the side-road leading up Mt. Charleston to Jacobstown.

Unless it turns out that the Big Empty happens to be out there somewhere. The inaccessible northwest part of the map leaves a lot to be speculated on.

sigh[]

I've repeatedly had to change "7,500 chips" (for the complimentary voucher unlock code) back to "7,000 chips" on this and related pages. It's 7000. Say it with me: "7000" Not 7,500. Everybody got that? 7,000 chips. Kindly stop reverting it to 7,500 as this is incorrect.174.0.106.101 06:43, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

No, sorry, but you are incorrect. It is indeed 7500, not 7000. So, say it with me, 7500 chips. ScreamingFalcon 03:45, February 8, 2011 (UTC)

It is 7500. I had 7491 chips, and no voucher. 7500, I got it.

Possible Bug? (PC version)[]

After powering up the casino (via Put the Beast Down) and thereby activating the holograms (Cashier etc.) in the gambling area, it seems impossible for me to actually gamble since I constantly get a "You have to buy chips..." message when I try the slots or Blackjack or Roulette -- although I have more than 2400 chips at hand.

Even dropping the chips on the floor (or storing them in a container) and exchanging new ones from the Cashier didn't work, and neither does leaving and re-entering the casino.

Is this a possible bug or a glitch? Or aren't we supposed to gamble at this stage of the game? -- 93.199.64.186 13:15, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

Another possible bug? (PC version)[]

After completing the gala event and opening the casino I accidentally entered and exited the casino and now can no longer go into the casino, rendering the game impossible to continue. The dialog "Once you enter the casino you may not be able to return" pops up, but after pressing enter the casino the menu closes but nothing happens. Caravan Deck[]

Aside from the Dead Man's Hand scattered throughout the Sierra Madre and Villa, are there any other cards for an entire Sierra Madre deck? -Malus X 00:47, March 12, 2011 (UTC)

Fast Travel[]

Can you fast travel from location to location here, or is it like OA? --74.243.111.5 01:40, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Possibly worth noting[]

I Checked the meaning "Sierra madre" The most direct translation is "Saw mother" As in, the saw that cuts things. Considering the nature of this DLC, I think maybe worth noting in behind the scenes.

I think it's more likely to be inspired by Sierra Madre, California and the Sierra Madre Villa Hotel. --Actreal 05:49, August 10, 2011 (UTC)

Suppy/Shipping/Transportation?[]

How did the supplys to biuld the Sierra Madre get to the Casino Hotel and the Villa by proxy, if you couldn't bring some sort of vehicle into the city? Shouldn't there be some sort of electric powered golf cart sized vehicle for maintanance crews, police, or even to shuttle guests from one end of the villa to the other?

Also shouldn't there be some sort of vehicle hub on outside (or in the outskirts)of the Villa? Ex. Train terminal, Truck Depo, Parking Lot, etc...--Ant2242 00:45, October 18, 2011 (UTC)

try reading the terminal entries in the game and you will know this. vehicles were not allowed into the vila, and at some point large shipments of explosives were shipped to the casino, with a question around the lines of "is mr. reclusive planning on blowing up the road so noone can get here?" 74.77.217.91 18:36, January 26, 2012 (UTC)

Music in the villa?[]

What is the name of the creepy music that plays in the villa? I heard it sometimes while exploring the Mojave but I haven't been able to find it on YouTube.

It sucks because it's so awesome. It really add to the atmosphere of the place.

--SErgEantaEgis (talk) 00:39, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

Loosely related to this movie I think[]

Mountain has the same name and it takes place in tampico mexico, which is the name of the stage in the casino. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040897/

Bug that only I experience?[]

In Sierra madre, I cannot seem to set off any traps. They simply just do not explode or go off when tripped. I haven't heard of this occurring for anyone else, but it's fixed on completion of the game. Anybody else have this or do I need to punch my xbox? Benshikari (talk) 02:20, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Do you have the Light Step perk? Great Mara (talk) 02:41, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Location near the Grand Canyon[]

The current citation for it's location being near the Grand Canyon is the slide showing a river canyon and mountains - except the Grand Canyon is situated on a plateau without any prominent mountains similar to the slide nearby.

Without some other supporting info, it seems the slide is a far more generic mountain/canyon, leaving the location ambiguous.

The slide itself was created by Joe Sanabria, a developer who created concept art for both the main game and DLCs. The slide in question is specifically portraying the Grand Canyon during the night, so while the specifics of the location may differ as you go up and down the canyon, the slide is still, in fact, the Grand Canyon. JCB2077 (talk) 08:54, July 14, 2020 (UTC)
Is there a source for those more specific slide details? That would be far better to cite than the slide alone - not that it actually says anything about where it's located relative to what the slide depicts.
The Vault wiki most likely had one at one time, but given how many NV devs have faded into obscurity, going to work on other projects or otherwise being laid off/fired and working at other studios, I doubt many of their sites remain today for examination or confirmation, which would be the case for Joe Sanabria. JCB2077 (talk) 00:21, July 15, 2020 (UTC)
I originally took the slide from a gallery on Sanabria's website, he has since removed it or his website has been renovated, but at the time he gave details and the file name was something along the lines of Grand Canyon at Night. Devastating DaveZIP ZAP RAP 01:33, July 15, 2020 (UTC)
Seems his page was flash or javascript heavy and didn't really archive. Still don't see a particularly strong argument for proximity based on that slide being the grand canyon, but what's a guy to do. Thanks for the replies.
Seems to me that saying that it's near the Grand Canyon is too speculative if there are no sources. There is nothing explicit in the game. I would have guessed that it's close to Big MT and The Divide, since the three places are closely related. Also Christine Royce, Father Elijah and Ulysses were able to travel between the three places. This is still a bit speculative, but it's based on the story. I think the most appropiate thing would be to add a little section clarifying that the location is ambiguous and the main suspected locations and their different reasons. Salvatoor (talk) 18:55, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
The source is the artist, but the website was taken down before it could be archived. Additionally, wstablishing shots are not speculative. Its basic relation of shots, or slides in this case, to where it is located. Unless you want to say Obsidian would pull a rookie mistake like showing a showing an aerial of Paris to then show a close up of London. Devastating DaveZIP ZAP RAP 21:54, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
I agree with Salvatoor, we don't have any evidence and it is speculation. We can't assume what Obsidian is or isn't doing. That is not our job. We need to only record what we can verifiably know. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 22:24, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
I don't agree because this is not speculation? Establishing shots are accepted across all other visual fiction but this is different somehow because of some reason? This is what Obsidian presented, and there is no other interpretation. However, I am for contacting Joe Sanabria to get his take if it needs confirmed further.
