The Vault 118 overseer was the overseer of Vault 118 prior to his death.

Background

Before the Great War, the Vault 118 overseer was responsible for attracting and selecting 10 ultra elite individuals for Test Group A of Vault 118's experiment, as well as overseeing the recruitment of the other test group -- regular citizens of Mount Desert Island. During the construction of the Vault, he noticed that progress on the second wing (meant for Test Group B) had stopped, due to the financier of the project, Ezra Parker, not paying Vault-Tec. When asked, Ezra claimed to the overseer that his investor Julianna Riggs had not given him the necessary funds, but when he asked her she told him she had just sent Ezra extra money for additional gold paint. The overseer planned to have Vault-Tec send an investigator on suspicions of embezzlement.[1]

The Test Group A elite residents moved into the Vault sometime before the war. One of them was Bert Riggs, a General Atomics International researcher, who proposed surviving the impending nuclear war by inserting their brains into robobrains, quickly convincing the others. The overseer was opposed to the idea, viewing it as a subversion of the Vault experiment. However, his superiors were more interested and allowed it to happen.[2]

When the War finally came, the overseer received instructions to admit the general population for Test Group B, despite their wing of the Vault still being incomplete. However, the overseer found that they had locked out of the Vault door control system, presumably by one of the elite residents. He was left as the only human in the Vault, the residents having turned themselves into the robobrains and the rest of the Vault staff also being robots.[3] After several weeks, with his mental state declining, the overseer came to believe that he had become the Vault's test subject, the experiment changed to focus on his torment at being trapped with the "rich assholes" who would live forever.[4]

Notes

  • A human actor for the overseer exists in the game's files, though he only appears as a skeleton in-game. This actor is used only to speak the lines for the overseer's holotape (as required by the Creation Kit). This actor uses the default human male appearance and also wears the suspenders and slacks; the cut Vault 118 resident Spencer Lords also has an unused actor of the same appearance.
  • An unused voice type for the overseer exists in the game's files, "DLC03HolotapeMaleV118Overseer," though the holotape actually uses the "MaleEvenToned" voice type.

Appearances

The overseer of Vault 118 appears only in the Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor, as a skeleton.
