Xian-85 fighter was a Chinese aircraft used during the Sino-American War.

Background[]

Xian-85 fighters were replicated in virtual reality by the United States Air Force and used to train combat pilots. How widespread this was is unclear, as the VR training systems have so far only been found at Nellis Air Force Base. Following the Great War and occupation of the base by the Boomers, the trainers were reinitialized by them, and Xian-85 fighters were once again used as training targets. Pete, the Boomer museum caretaker, shot down over 500 of these in training.[1]

Appearances[]

The Xian-85 fighter is mentioned only in Fallout: New Vegas.

Behind the scenes[]

Xian is an existing Chinese state-owned aircraft manufacturer, whose primary clients include the People's Liberation Army. Xian-85 is not an actual designation, as aircraft are designated by the manufacturer name (Xian), followed by the actual designation and intended role (eg. JH-7, jiān hōng qī or fighter bomber).

Pete: "Once we restored power, we learned that some elaborate chairs we'd been sleeping in were actually virtual reality simulators. We believe they were used to train combat pilots. We use them extensively. I alone have shot down over 500 Chinese Xian-85 fighters! Before you ask, I'm afraid there's no way you can be allowed to use the simulators. They are for our use only. Sorry."
